Well i got a b17, very good motor, very clean motor. I just want to know whats the power im looking towards. I have some sort of clue (stronger than b16, a little weaker than 1.8 GSR) just want to know what im looking for out of this thing. ANy info on maintanance or whatever will be appreciated thanks buddies
well if its stock its same hp as b16. it gets the hp thru torque tho rather than revving. i would imagine its not much quicker than a b16. i never got a chance to use my b17 before i ripped it apart.
Its more powerful than a B16A, and in some cases is on par with the B18C. I dynoed my B17A stock at 180,000 miles. On a Dynoject I put down 145whp and 103lb-ft of torque. That equates out to about 170hp, same as a B18C and strangely 10 more than what the B17A is rated at. Regardless to say, I was happy

Yeah this motor is really clean, surprisingly. My friend had it in his 1992 GSR, took it out because it was totalled sold it to a friend(we put the motor in at our shop) and has only put about 5k on it since hes had it. I drove it yesterday in the hatch and it felt really strong, hopefully its in and running tonight, maybe ill get some dyno numbers for yall soon
o.....lookin at the pistons makes the motor look slow. they are almost 100% flat top. the pistons are actually 0cc.....no dish or dome. then i see p30 pistons and they are comparable to ctr pistons. maybe a b17 would smoke a 1st gen, but i think thats about it.
i just read a post on a civic w/ a jdm sir2 b16 in it that dyno'd 148whp and 117wtq. plus the difference in the trans (stock for stock) i think makes an integra xsi faster than the b17 gsr.

just do a compression/leakdown test. if anything's wrong, it should show up there. then go nuts and have yourself a sweet aftermarket rebuild.
excellent motor, just like the b16 with slightly larger displacement.

mountain cruise sounds cool..... got the link to the thread? oh yeah, b17 = stroked b16 w/ .6 less compression and a few less rev's. also doesn't have the crazy transmission i.e. i'm doin 4000rpm @ 65 in 5th gear cuz of my b16
