I am learning as much as I can as fast as I can.
This DX is $800 with 200xxx miles.
im wondering what might need to be fixed/replaced soon.
and if its going to be worth it to do this.
yes, I agree with you that I would jump on it.
i just want to know if for a "noob" like me if its going to be worth it and fixing it up?

If it runs and doesn't have any noticeable damage, $800 is a good deal! We really don't know the conditon of the crx you're looking to get. Can you post pics of it?

with proper tools we're talking about a complete cake walk man! Shouldn't take more than a weekened project if you go slow and do it right. However, depending on how good you are and despite your "knowledge", it could be a 2-4hour job.
You're better off that it's sold. Now somebody else has to deal with that nightmare.
These are words you never want to hear from a potential seller:
1) New Engine - It never really has a new engine. By new engine, they mean new to them. These usually are used and high mileage. Usually from a junkyard
2) Great for racing - This means he beats the crap out of his cars. This is probably why it has a 'new' engine. And if the engine is so great for racing, why doesn't he list what it is? It's probably a d15 that he thinks is actually fast. Good for everyday driving? I think not!
3) Body work - Try to find the straightest car you can afford with the original paint. Body work is a PITA.
4) Alignment - This, combined with 'body work' leads one to believe it's been in a wreck, or he's hit few too many curbs at speed. Stay away! If the car needs an alignment, it is not good for 'everyday driving'

if by "new engine" he means it has been rebuilt from the block up in the past 15k
but like the other guy said, if it's a junkyard deal due to his previous engine exploding at speed
personally, it looks like the shell would be worth 800 to me (from that pic anyway)

Sellers never admit to it being a junkyard engine.
They either have 'lost' the rebuild receipt, or the owner BEFORE them put this 'new' engine in so it's all hearsay and repetitive BS.
Of course he could have receipts etc....but 90% of the time, the above is true.

Oh well, next time.
Oh well, next time.
Kind of a waste keeping this thread alive since it's sold, but to offer my .02 on the subject, being involved in plenty of EF purchases...
There is no DX on the road today worth more than $1000, and even now those are rare. There is of course an exception to every rule, but by & large you should be able to pick up a stock DX (new motor or not) for around $500 or less.
Hell, I bought my '88 DX 5 years ago for $500. It had 180-someK on it then.
A friend of mine bought a '90 STD with spun rod bearing for $300 3 years ago.
roadworthy un-riced, non-hybrid, everyday EF's are a dime a dozen.
