Default 97 cycl accord timing belt job

I need some good tips to save time and make it go faster. I already have the text book instructions but we all know that experience is better.

The only way to get experience is to do it.

i got a 96 EX, not sure if they're exactly the same but heregoes.

Definitely replace the balance shaft belt while you're in there.

Also on the timing belt tensioner you will see a slot and a bolt hole down the middle of the slot. Don't freak, there's not supposed to be a bolt there. The hole is there to temporarily hold the tensioner back while replacing the belt (you can steal a bolt from the dust shield). I spent hours looking for that bolt when I started putting things back together, my manual didn't really explain it well.

Finally the timing belt cover is a pain is the *** (they all are). They say to remove it from the bottom, but I think its easier to do it from the top. However you have to remove the entire engine mount bracket. Also pay close attention to how you remove the power steering and alternator, its a real puzzle to put it back together.

Hope this helps! Get some gear wrenches too, those'll save you so much time

great stuff there Schmitey.

I already have experience doing timing belt on my v6 accord but 4cycl structure is different.

Did u have to drop the engine in order to remove the tb cover from the top? All I need to remove is the alt and ps and the cover will come out?

I take out the two bolts from the left side of the front beam so the engine drops down a little more and pull the lower cover out the bottom.
