Can I put 15 inch steel rims on my little 95 hatchback? I want to run 195/55R15 on it for the summer. This size won't change my outside diameter. But might the tires rub on the wheel well when I turn or hit big bumps?

 

yeah...people put 17's on hatches all the time (unfortunately)

 

Is you car lowered at all?

If so then you could have some rubbing (depending on the drop) with 55 series tires. If your car is stock height then you have nothing to worry about.

 

It should change the outside diameter a little if you are currently using oe sized tires and wheels (I think 175/70/13). The new tires will be bigger and wider but they should still fit and I doubt you'll have much rubbing especially if you aren't that low. good luck

 

You need 195/50/15 tires or at most 205/50/15 tires. 195/55/15 will look like **** because the sidewall is so damn tall.

Actually I just checked and 195/50R15 is better cause of the outside diameter difference. So I'll probably go with those. The car is not lowered at all. Good to know they'll fit fine.

edit: Yes they will fit and this ^ is a good, lightweight wheel. Weight is of importance.

 

i've seen hatchbacks wiht 19'' so u can put 15'' for sure

thats alot taller than the stock diameter

 

which is why I said I'd use 195/50R15 instead like was suggested by B18C5-EH2.

When you really think about it the total diameter of a 15 inch rim and the tire on it it will come out just over 17 inches. So having 17's with a rubberband tire doesn't exactly put the car in the air like most say. It does cut down on ride comfort a whole lot though. But having 17's on hatches...for some reason it just doesnt look good. Looks better on coupes I guess. I'd say since you have a hatch stick with the 15's and I don't think they'll rub at all unless your car is slammed.

wow... if you can tell the difference between 195/55 and 205/50 by looking, you're quite a tire expert... 107.25mm vs 102.5mm sidewall heights. btw, 195/55 is the factory size tire on 94+ integra gsr and 99-00 civic Si

Seeing as how I sell tires at the shop I work at (have for 3 years) I'd consider myself well versed in the area.

You can definately tell the difference in a 195/55/15 compared to a 205/50/15 because the 55 series looks taller. The 205 will hang over the wheel a bit more. Trust me 55 series looks retarded on 92-95 Civics. I had some OE 99 Civic Si wheels and tires (195/55/15 Mich XGTV4) on my fiancee's 92 Si HB back in 2000 and believe me, they looked damn silly compared to 205/50/15s.

in anycase, 205/50 &gt; 195/55 &gt; 195/50 imo. 195/50 looks too skinny and tiny

 

I have a 95 ex coupe I was wondering if I could run 15x6.5 wheels with a 38 offset with 195/50/15 with 1.75" lowering springs
