What are the pros and cons between electrical oil pressure and water temp gauges and mechanical ones?

 

Well I think im right in saying this but not 100% sure. Usually the way your ECU reads oil pressure is through a sensor that is on the back of the block, otherwise called a "oil pressure sending unit". Now if you use a mechanical gauge your going off of what that sensor would be telling you as to what your oil pressure would be. The advantages of a mechanical gauge is you can set up a fitting and run a steel braided line from the back of the block to the gauge and have oil pressure flowing through the line to the gauge, result is real time readings rather than waiting for a sensor to tell you what your oil pressure is. I have a mechanical gauge set up running right into my gauge pod using a steel braided line, im a huge fan. This is just my opinion.

 

eh there really isnt a delay with an electrical one.

anyway, here is the rundown
the mechanical ones have a line that will contain whatever you are monitoring (pressure, temp, etc) into the cabin. while it works the only drawback is saftey. i mean if you have a line break on an oil pressure gauge, you now have 60+ PSI of 160 degree oil spraying all over the inside of your car. an electrical one has a sending unit that sends out the information to the gauge.

both work well, i prefer a mixture of both.

electrical:
pros: no oil/water or whatever lines running to the cabin.
cons: not as accurate as mechanical

mechanical:
pros: more accurate and cheaper
cons: lines to the cabin.
