Block decking questions
I had my block decked to ensure it is perfectly straight for the build up. The front left corner was off pretty bad and the block had to be decked .0035. I have a few questions though, how can I tell what my new compression will be? It's a B20B block with a B16A head and 10.5:1 pistons. Nest is timing. What do I need to do to compensate for the decking? I want it to be on dead even timing right now. Do I need to adjust each cam gear?
You shouldn't need to adjust either cam gear, you should be able to adjust the belt tensioner to compensate. Just calculate the compression the same as you would if you had milled the head by .0035.

Say what.. The timing belts distance is from the cam gears down the front of the motor to the crank pulley.. If you change the distance from them then you need to adjust the cam timing since the distance is shorter.. Adjusting the tensioner has nothing to do with bringing the cam timing back into spec, it just makes the belt tight..

About a 1/3 of a degree. If you are worried about it, advance your gears by 1/3 and you should be close to 0 again.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I wouldnt worry about 1/3 of a degree..
I wouldnt worry about 1/3 of a degree..
What will the new compression be though, I forgot how to calculate the new compression math wise and most compression calculators online just put in simple variables and nothing when it comes to decking.
