went to the race track to race car. after slowing down the car spit & sputtered and died. had to hold the throttle way open to get restarted, but got back to the pits, let it set for a while, then it started up fine and drove home, just had a slight miss at idle.
i decided to hit vtec on the way home to see if i could make it go wild again, as a neared 7000 rpm, it just went spittin and sputtering again, i COULD NOT let off the gas or it would die.
so i thought that it would be that i may have bent some valves. i took the head off and took it to the machine shop he put new valves, valve springs, seals, the whole 9 yards.
i put the head back on and used some arp studs, now it smokes like crazy.out the exhaust and white smoke from the valve cover breather, not sweet smelling like anitfreeze, but strong gas odor, it would build up pressure if i kept my finger on the hole,
the motor has 176,00 miles on it and nothing has been done other than type r cams / valve springs
compression was at 180 in 1,2,3 but 165 in #4
AFTER the headwork,like 120,140,130, and #4 had 190!
any ideas? $70+ head gaskets suck to buy when you go through a couple

well 2 local honda guys (speedworks and saleensolution-its at his house) looked at it and said the block looks fine, and couldn't really tell anything from the head gasket either
well, given the fact you had no head work done, and you put a new head gasket in (you did put alot of copper spray when you installed it ?) Only thing i could think next is the head or block is warped or your rings are done

they made sure twice that the head was straight and true...didn't use any copper spray, i havent' seen anyone use that locally, around here anyway, it may be a common thing elsewhere...and no one else has problems

well seeing as his numbers are already low, i don't see how another test will help.
did your machinist do a 3 angle valve job or any porting ? Did you check the block for warpage ? i've seen many builders here in my area put alot of copper spray for better sealing

ended up being rings looks like (read saleensolutions post below), so i'm getting soft radius'd arias 20 over flat top pistons from Alaniz, eagle rods(more than likely) and ACL bearings now..total since car started acting funny: $2600!
but that includes above, $400 for skunk2 cams, ferrea valves, poerflow inner valvesprings too, a few head gaskets, other gaskets and seals...etc..

all the blow by was comin up through the oil drain vent holes on one and three. but on two and three at 45 psi it had 10 percent leakage which is good
