Default How to tell if burning oil???

Hey i just did and oil change and also changed my spark plugs, on my d16z6 eg. After i turned the car on for the first time after the oil change, i let it idle for about 3 minutes but then i smelled a bad smell like something was burning. I looked at the head and everything looked clean no oil was leaking or anything and all i noticed was a good amount of smoke coming off of my exhaust header.

Am i burning oil??????? is there something else wrong? i dont want the car to overheat so what should i do, this has never happened before (trust me i know how to do a damn oil change)

Thank for any advice

chances are it was run off from the drain plug burning off, and slight breeze was blowing it toward the header.

An oil leak wont cause the car to overheat.

you might wanna tighten that exhaust header, smoke shouldnt be coming out.

if youre burning oil seriously, you will see blue smoke in the rear view mirror when youre driving.

the smoke is coming off of the header like around the bends, its not coming out of where the header meets the block so i dont think its a tightening problem

i always spill oil on the bottom of my header when i change the oil filter... sometimes i dont wipe it down, and the oil burns off of that

Rev your engine and drive around. Then take a look at your rear bumper. If there are traces of black substance where the exhaust tip is, then you are likely to burn oil.
