Thanks Philly, I need some winter tires soon too

I don't have a beater and I don't want a beater. I would rather save that 3000-5000 for my next ride or spare parts for my R.

Yes, I was going to ask how people put 50000 in 2 years or whatever? I put max 15000km or 10000miles per year the max, and average around 10000km, which is 6333miles per year. So, 2 years on average I put 20000miles max and should be around 15000 for 2 years average. Those include winters, no beaters.
so, wonder where people go to get 50000 in 2 years.

Remote start gets things moving while i walk to the car, then i drive as normal...I'm at 16,500 miles after about 10 months...i don't have a commute, just drive to alot of events, track time, and trips...i don't even feel like i drive alot. It's too much fun in the R to care
Well I commute 22 mi round trip to work, tack in more miles on the weekends (250ish mi) My R was my daily driver, I just bought a '93 Civic coupe, so my R is stuck @ 49,500mi for a while.
After driving my R for so long, I feel that car is really a track car, just not meant to be on the streets, all that fun wasted driving around town. It's more fun on the track anyway.

Remote starter's and warming up your car before you drive it shortens the engines life span due to the moisture buildup.I would suggest you get in your car and start driving almost right away, but don't beat on it till it reaches normal operating temp.Oh and ya'll get heat faster if you drive it.

start it up and go, u'll have an LS (novtec)
and u'll see what your missing
just kidding, u waste more fuel that way!
keep the rpms low thats all

turn the heat to cold, helps get the water temp up faster
idle for a minute or two, just until it stops being rough. this depends a lot upon how cold it is. never more than about 5 minutes though.
drive easy (i stay under 2500) at least until the water temp has been normal for a couple minutes, then turn the heat on (and you'll actually have heat !!!) and keep driving easy for another 5 or so minutes to give the oil plenty of time to heat up. after all that you can drive as you like

Here is what I do.... I never warm the car up over 2 min. The ITR seems to be loud when warming up and then it start to quiet down after a few min. The RPM is around 1600 or 1700 RPM when I start the car, then it will fall back down to 1500 a min or two later. then it will be in normal idel status after a few min(I think around 1200 or 1000)
I always wait until the sound quiet down a little bit(I think around 1500 RPM), then I start to drive slowly until 2 to 5 min after the engine warms up completely( the red/orange indicator should be nearly the middle on the engine heat sensor) to make sure the engine is completely warmed up b4 I do any hard driving.
One more thing that's very important during winter is never let your gas tank level falls below 1/3 or half of the tank especially if you parked outside.. moisture will build up in the tank and it's kinda bad for the engine.... Normally I let the needle hit the 1/8 place b4 I fill up the tank during summer, but never let it fall below 3/8 during winter... mixing gas with gas is okay for me, but mixing gas with the moisture left in the tank is not okay..

I just let me car idle for 30sec and driving it while keeping my rpm below 3000 until it is fully warm up, it will take about 5 min in SFbay area winter.
