Default EG radiator in our cars. Yeah... search this!

I know it's been covered a billion times.

I have seen pics with the radiator installed. Some have their hood skeleton cut, some have the radiator tilted back, and some have the crossmember cut.

There's even some good pictures of the custom mount some of you have come with to brace the top of the radiator.

I'm looking for a pic of what you people have come up with as far as the mounts go for the bottom of the radiator. I recently bought an EG radiator and found that neither of the bottom posts on the bottom of the radiator come remotely close to slipping into the rubber mount location for the stock wide radiator.

I found that it's a tight fit for the bottom of the radiator slipped into place. I guess that I really don't "need" anything to hold it in place, but I also noticed that the lower radiator neck is basically resting on the crossmember. With my luck, I'll hit a bump in the road and snap the water neck off. I'd like to have some sort of mount under the radiator to preven this.

Place Racing makes a cross member that allows you to mount the EG radiator on it.

I know. I also know that I don't have the $ for that right now. I'm not sure if I want an aftermarket X-member either - they definitely don't look as strong as a stock one. There have been reports of some snapping and junk about the radius rods having potential binding issues. I'm not ready for any of that.

Just have it re-inforced to prevent it from breaking.

You just made it cost even more.

Stop it!

Ok - let me make a requirement for my radiator project -
"MUST be using the stock crossmember."

Well it's not easy to make that thing fit. Have you tried a Neon radiator?

No. Dodge is worse than the devil himself. Too many bad memories of Dodges I unforunately owned.

Thanks man. Not only did you suggest all that other stuff, but now you have to give me nightmares about Dodges.

Yeah, the Neon rad would fix it. I was able to get the EG radiator with fan for a good price. Besides that, I don't care for the radiator hose mod needed for the Neon radiator.

Has anyone cut the crossmember to allow fitment of the radiator and then reinforced the area or something like that? It looks like it would be a total pain... I may be able to buy a Fuidyne EG radiator for cheap, so I'm interested in cramming it in there, but I'm not interested in cutting my hood...

Mine is set up the way you want it. I just cut out some of the rad support. Cross member is untouched. Yea, the waterneck and draincock are resting on the cross member, but it's been like that for years with no problems. I also cut out some of the hood skeleton.

I have the placing racing cm w/ the eg radiator. The crossmeber seems to be pretty strong. You still have to hack the bottom side of the hood to make it fit. It hits the radiator cap. It sits really low and the damn tow hooks hit every dip so i have to be carefull...but i like it and it looks clean....

I'm using the stock crossmember with my EG radiator. Had to cut some **** down there and space the hood latch up a bit but it works! I'll have to take pics tomorrow if I can because I'm going on vacation! woot

maybe cut out some of the x member to make it fit lower (or whatever you'd need to cut out down there) and then weld where you cut out the hole, as to somewhat reinforce it??? I dunno, haven't gotten that far w/car yet.

in other words, no boost, no eg radiator

I recommend you tu buy the Jim fab or avid cross member, they improve or eliminate wheel hop, place racing use stock radius rod

Ok - here's the pics.

The evil radiator
I can't even run over the damn thing if I wanted to.

It fits... sort of.
I can close the hood no problem
(JDM hood... JDM radiator support)

The EG radiator posts don't even come close to landing in the stock ED radiator mounts.

... and it worries me that it will snap this water neck off if I hit a big bump.

The A/C condensor is coming out. It's a little bent
It had a bad encounter with a jack that slipped.

For those with the EG radiator - notice the metal that goes along right under the condesnor? Did you bend that downwards or cut it out? I'm thinking that removing it will create more room for the radiator to sit.

So you didnt have to cut into the x-member or the hood to get it to fit? Are you leaning it back or what? I have read here and there that you dont have to cut eathier but nobody really explains what they do.

I have the JDM hood and the JDM radiator support. I'm not sure if that's why I'm getting more clearance, but I can shut the hood without feeling, seeing, or hearing any interferance with the radiator and the hood. I was going to put some clay or play-doh on the top of the radiator last night to see exactly how much clearance I am really dealing with, but I got lazy and didn't bother.

No tilting at all.

If you look at the second pic I posted, you can see that the radiator is just about level with the hood latch bar that goes from side to side between the headlights. If I bend or cut that metal in the last picture, I might be able to get the radiator to fit under the hood latch bar. If so, then I can turn the latch bar into an upper radiator support with minimal effort.

On the USDM stuff, the radiator bangs into the hood. I think it's mainly due to how the hood dips down in the middle compared to the JDM hood that pops up. Cutting into the skeleton under the hood relieves that issue, but looks wierd when you pop the hood. So, cutting into the crossmember to drop it down takes care of it too.
