axle clunk noise?
okay well i have a gsr block in a 92 hatch and when i swapped in the motor the axle would cause a clunk noise when taking off in first gear from a stop... popped the hood and noticed that there was grease all over my firewall....decided to try another axle...me and my father rebuilt one and everything with new boots and it seemed good..installed it thinking it would solve my clunking noise problem....nope...go for a test drive...still clunks when i take off, but not as much....i pop the hood again and again i have grease on my firewall...i've searched but couldnt find anyone whose solved this problem...can anyone help me? thanx in advance..
BTW: this is the driver side axle and the grease is coming from the inner joint connecting to the halfshaft

do not just put a new boot on it thinking ur axle is fixed. ur axle is crapped out. get a new one for like 70 bucks and ur done. good luck.
edit: i mis read. u said u used another axle...but u rebuilt it urself with new boots. i dunno..i still think u should buy a brand new axle.

all the bearings were changed as well..it was rebuilt from end to end...i dont see how i could go wrong knowing me and my father rebuilt it....wondering why it would spew grease on my firewall and underside....but i know its because of the clnking noise....someone mentioned a bad rear mount...but my motor really doesnt move running or when i'm reving it
yeah...clunking could also come from bad mounts..especially the rear one...however...u said u had alot of grease on ur firewall...thats a sign of bad axle. so...if u still have major grease problems...i would suggest new axle.

i have this problem. its especially bad if i shift hard out of first into second at high rpms. i know for a fact i have a broken lower drivers side mount, so im thinking thats my problem. hook yourself up with an autozone remanufactured axle- they are like 70 bucks and have lifetime warranty
