mmm. Stupid question first. Are you sure you are turning it in the right direction. It backs out to the left.
Now, that bolt has tightened itslef overtime and it could very well be tightened up to 600 ft/lbs. You will need some serious impact power for this. Try borrowing or renting a powerfull impact gun for this. A breaker bar and such will not work at all.

I call bullshit. I did mine with the use of two people. One hold a breaker bar to the nut and the other holding a breaker bar to the pully tool. Came off on the first try with no problems.

I don't think so. I have heard of just as many people using this tool successfully as I have heard of people not. Why, I don't know.

don't mind that, it has nothing to do with your problem.

Are you talking about the key that is in the gears for the timing belt and balancer shaft belt? I don't remember if there is a key in the pulley or not but either way that has nothing to do with the removal of the pulley itself.
edit:
your right, there is a key there but like I said earlier it has nothing to do with th removal of the pulley. It's simply there to line up the gears/pulley and maybe drive them.

Here is an idea, get a tool that fits nicely at the bolt with a bar( iron a foot long). The bar has to be placed where it can stand a big impact. It will look like an t shape when the bar and the tools is together, use the power of starting the car to loosen up the bolts. do remember u need two people in these!~!! one to start the car and other making sure the bar and the tools is in right places. Once it loosen, turn of the car.
werd.... I cant start it because theres no timing belt hooked up. So far the entire heads been replaced but need to remove the crank bolt in order to change the timing belt.
Mine was a pain in the *** to get off too, the breaker bar I used was like almost three feet long, I used the extension handle off my 3.5 ton jack. I didnt have that tool you do though I had to use a damn screw drive to hold the flywheel still, so I'd say use a bigger breaker bar, which can cause you to be hesitant putting that much torque on it.
I am going through this same thing. I have a pipe extention that will make my breaker bar nearly 4 ft long. My air compressor will not put out enough SCFM to turn my Impact efficiantly so I am being forced to do it manually. Does anybody recomend using the crank bolt again after having this much force put to it?
I can't remember if the Helms says to replace it or not but I did reuse mine. It worked fine with no problems for the 6-8 months that I drove it after the timing belt change and before I totaled it.
Put a torch to it and heat that bolt up. It will pop right out. Just make sure not to use too much heat. You don't want to damage anything! good luck

Someone said that same thing a little while ago in the EG+ forum and I couldn't understand. Normally you would figure you heat it up and it expands, means it would just be even harder to get out. But like I said, your not the first that I've seen say this so I wonder if it really is true.

Right now this is the only thing holding me back. The heads on all sensors hooked up ready to go... I'm so fustrated right now since everything else is finished. All this started cuz I bent some valves. Turned into the biggest PITA !!! ARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!
Why can't this bolt just come off?

Why can't this bolt just come off?
be patient, it will come off. Something bad always happens when I get like that and keep trying to get it done. I either break something or hurt myself. Good luck
