Default Skunk2 Manifold power loss

How much power is tended to be loss by switching to a skunk2 manfiold from a GSR manifold. Whats the best way to minimize the power loss without doing head work?.

here is my friends GSR before and after mods.

Before: AEM CAI, 7.5 flywheel, Nothing else. Stock everything else!!

After: AEM CAI
64mm throttle body
Skunk2 intake mani (64mm inlet)
Hondata manifold gasket
Portflow valve springs/retainers
Skunk2 stage 1 cams and cam gears
B&M FPR
RC440 Injectors
Hondata S200 Tuned by Lawrence at DSR
JDM 4-1 header
Stock JDM R cat (restrictive!)
Stock JDM R exhaust and muffler (restrictive, but sleeper!)

you can see where he actually lost mid range power, which i think is due the Skunk2 single runner style manifold. you can see he only lost 5-7whp from 4500-5500rpm. But the gains up top are well worth the mid range dip. Im sure with a freeier flowing cat and exhaust and maybe even a short ram intake the dip would dissapear and be smoother. but i still think the gsr has better mid range power.

I think that result is fairly typical. My GSR experienced a similar dip with the skunk2 manifold and also better breathing in the top end, though I made many changes at the same time so I cannot attest to the isolated effects of the manifold swap. I think it's a good mod if you're going to wind the motor up with regularity.

Well I already have I/H/E/CAT/FPR/VAFC. I was just going to get the manifold now because I need to get a chipped ECU and I was told that if i get on on the STOCK manifold that it would cause me a loss of power due to the secondaries being left open.

Just another reason to go for the skunk2 IM if/when you can afford it. It's a good mod and the inability of the P28 to control the secondary runners on the stock manifold just gives you another reason(excuse) to go with the aftermarket manifold. I was faced with the same situation when I switched ECUs to a hondata modded P28. I tied the secondary runners on the stock manifold open until I got around to installing the skunk2 IM.

the skunk2 is not designed correctly, why would you want to put something like that on your car?

save up some more money and get a JG sheetmetal

he'd lose a LITTLE bottom end, but he'd gain a LOT of top end. it's worth it.

if you're JG is for a b16 head, willing to sell it?

i doubt you really had much of a loss. ive seen many cars dyno a little less...but all of them ran faster
