Default Engine Cleaning

Had my block sleeved by Benson. While it was there it was hot tanked 3 or 4 times. Now Im assembling it. However it still looks like ****. The block has like corrosion all over it. The aluninum has a dingy color to it. My block is only 4 years old but it must be the NY winters and salt have taken its toll.

How can I make it look clean and new like everyone elses built up bottom ends? Ive tried a scotch brite pad and fine sand paper. Its not greasy so Simple Green has no affect.

Your best bet would be to paint the block with some high temp engine enamel. A gray color would look good.

I was thinking that would be my last resort. My local engine shop says try muriatic acid. But I read on here that it disintegrates aluminum and leaves it dull and gray looking.

Basically I just need to remove the oxidation. What about having it sand blasted?
