Some vehicles for a streetable, close to showroom stock, time trialer?
Any ideas? I own a 95 Honda Civic CX, buttttt I just cant see this thing EVER being a competitor.
Lets here them.........
P.S. Something reasonable cheap.

You mean Showroom Stock the class? Cuz all of the above aren't eligible. I think you just mean sans modifications expcet pads/tires, then the miater and crxer are fine choices.

Pick something that will become a relatively competitive, common Improved Touring car. That CX should actually be a reasonable ITC car so I'd think about sticking with it but do NOT make any improvements until you know the common class rules...

Technically the CX could never be used as the stock motor cracked a sleeve, and the only motor I could find good and close and cheap to me was a dx motor. So it has a different motor/ecu, but CX tranny and everything else.

hi.
my buddy's 91 protege LX makes a great SSC car. he bought it used from the original owner, who, after he bought it new, took it directly from the dealer to the cage shop to be prepped. it ran 5 years doing that, then my buddy bought it. he runs it with NASA and EMRA, who allow older SSC cars to run with the newer (you tend to see a lot of older 200 SERs, Neons, and Proteges).
the Protege LX is BULLETPROOF (same engine as the 1.8 Miatas). the earlier ones, like his, have a super duper brake system; 4 wheel disks, with big front calipers with the "quick change" front pad system similiar to a porsche (pull out 2 sliderpins and the pads slip out the top). the car has been completely reliable for him; its gotta have at least 40k race miles on it, plus about 25k street miles. oh, and it was priced right!
good luck!
todd
ps it is super easy to drive, and very predictable. that car can be 45 degrees sideways adn recoverable. very much easier to drive than my h1 civic!

In that case, I retract my previous comments about SS.

...and note that there is every chance that this will be an ITA car in 2005. This would be a very interesting option.

They are cheap, and getting cheaper every day. They are dead damn nuts reliable. There may be more go-faster parts out there for it than there are for Civics. It's impossible to drive one and not feel like you're the greatest driver of all time.
Matt<---if I were 4" shorter, I'd have 2 Miatas instead of 2 SE-Rs (which I fit in with a helmet).
