Hello guys..

I just recently pulled a transmission off of a 1996 Accord (SOHC non-VTEC) and installed an ACT clutch kit. I installed a new throwout bearing as well.

I then put the tranny back in (I hate Accords) and buttoned everything up. Upon reinstalling everything, I noticed the fork that sticks out of the tranny that is pushed by the slave cylinder is LOOSE with an inch or two of easy play in it.

Everytime I have done a B-Series tranny, that fork is SOLID and doesn't move with the exeption of the slave cylinder pushing it back for clutch engagement. I reconnected the slave cylinder, bled it, and now... I have MINIMAL clutch depression with the pedal inside of the car. It clearly seems as if the clutch release fork needs to be butted up closer to the slave cylinder "ball" in order to operate properly.

2 questions: First, what could cause this? It seems like a no brainer as to how to install the new throwout and put the release fork back in.

Secondly, can this fork be removed WITHOUT taking this transmission off? I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO DO IT OVER AGAIN. *Any* help on the matter is appreciated!

is the pivot point of the fork actually sitting on the ball, might not be. and you will have to take everything out again, even if u get the fork out the clutch release bearing will move and will not align.

 

The ball is definitely sitting in the relief made for it on the fork. I even took the slave cylinder off to make sure, and rebled it 2-3 times... I am only getting less than an inch of actual clutch depression from inside of the car.

What could cause this fork to have so much play if it IS sitting behind the throwout bearing inside of the tranny?! I just don't see how there could be any "slack" inside of there once the tranny has been bolted up to the block...?

 

It's difficult to diagnose without seeing the car, but keep in mind that the arm has to allow room for the wear of the clutch. As the clutch disc wears the fingers of the pressure plate raise up and push the bearing and arm back into the trans. Without the hydraulics installed and pumped a couple times the arm may have a lot of play.

well the fork should not sit behind the throwout bearing,
there are two arms, one on each side, that curve around, the metal should slide into those.. hugging it.

open up a manual and look at the diagram,
or look on hondaautomotiveparts.com their diagram might be good enuf,
see if you assembled it correctly

to me it sounds like its not assembled correctly.
but thats just the impression I get.
