No, a cold air intake does have a filter on the end. He's just saying that if you didn't have a filter you could inhale rocks and ruin your motor.

air intake requires the tube + filter and it sits higher than the cold air intake.

cold air intake requires tube + filter as well, goes down lower to ground to recieve "colder" air.

well it looks to me like this filter will be about just under 2 inchs from the bottom of the bumper

i was tring to cut out a pc of thin filter screen to put in the middle where the 2 pipes connect..like a mesh screen so ill have no filter on the end
what trips me out is that when the intake manifold opens that it could really have the suction power to pull air up that long *** tube

Yes the engine does have enough suction to pull the air, along with plenty of dirt if you do not use a filter. The stock intake is almost twice as long as the runner for a cold air intake.

DO NOT GO FILTERLESS!!!

dont use a homemade filter. don't worry about the filter hurting your power, it wont. just get an apexi or K&N. do you understand that particles smaller than you can see are lining up your cylinder walls and scratching the hell out of your engine?

intake manifolds dont open. well, GSR and prelude ones do, but that's different.
