Compared RSX vs ITR on track yet?
I'd like to know what the RSX feels like on the track compared to an ITR, or even w/a GSR. If you've hit a few late apexes in both, let me know what you think right off hand. If you have lap times, that'd be sweet!
I know the extra ponies feel good, but I wonder how the extra weight might hurt turn in and how the struts feel compared to the integra suspension...any performance comparisons you might have.
Just curious....
Thanks

The Type S is not the pure track car that a ITR is. But it is better then a GSR in every way.
It is hard to compare the Type S to a ITR because the are set up and targeted to two completely differenet types of people.
Lets just put it this way it will hang with a ITR but it will not beat it.

I'll have my RSX-S at VIR on Dec. 8-9. It's my first time at this track and with this car (only has 750 miles on it), so I don't plan on hanging all out, but I should have a decent idea of how the cars run in comparison. Check back here after the event and I'm sure you'll see lots of posts on the comparison!
Hopefully, I'll have lots of ITR friends after the event, with newfound respect for the RSX.

The biggest problem with typeS is that it lacks LSD. Plus the springs/shock combo seems too soft for such a heavy car.
It would be great to hear back from you after VIR event.

True-true. I don't know what to expect yet of the Macphersons, and the stock springs are not very stiff. The biggest problem that the RSX will face against the ITR tho, are the stock tires. Michelins (in general) aren't very good in my experience. The stock tires on the ITR were good soft compounds that stick, but weren't supposed to wear well.
I want to run the car completely stock for the first few events. I will be bringing a set of Carbotech panther plus brake pads just in case the stock pads start fading badly, as I expect they will - (Thanks, Andie at Carbotech for making me some custom pads, since RSX backings aren't available yet)
After two or three track events and an established performance baseline, I'm looking at a set of track wheels and tires, but don't know which way to go yet. I plan on talking to as many ITR guys as possible at the track to find out what's worked for them. I'll probably stay with 16", tho 17" will give me a shorter sidewall and less flex. Looking at Kumho V700, Hoosier, and others...
I know lots of people go to engine mods first, but brakes and handling are where fast track cars are made.

yeah you really couldnt have a fair comparision unless both cars had the same tires... cuz the pontenzas on the stock ITR are much better than those shity michelin MXM-XXX or whatever. I think the RSX-S would be between the ITR and GSR in terms of autoX performance.
I look fwd to the "results". I know the best comparison will be the Type R vs RSX Type R. What I'm wondering about here are car fundamentals more so than a direct comparison of Type S to Type R.
As for the track wheels, I wouldn't be too worried about a 17 vs 16 for a stiffer sidewall, as track rubber sidewalls are so damn stiff. Your biggest issue might be finding track rubber that'll fit. If you wanted 17's, you're probably looking at a min width of 245. I might be wrong, so check for yourself.....but I know when I compared 15 to 16", the 15 was a no brainer - lighter and lots of selection.
Thanks

well the rsx-s is a very good car/ it does real well on the track . if u look in the last honda tuning magazine it gives all the spec of the rsx-s against the gsr and i gotta say that the gsr got whooped. the rsx-s out handled, out pretty much everything in its class. as for puttng up against the itr. my brother has a 2001 itr. #40. and i got to say i have to give it up for the itr. i have a rsx-s and we raced. the lsd makes a big diference. i did hang with him. as in a previous comment made earlier by someone else, the rsx-s can hang with the itr, but it cant beat it. but u can also get the lsd for the rsx-s. go to http://www.clubrsx.com and u can purchase it there.
so for now the itr is a little bit better. but i cant wait till the rsx-r comes here in 2003. thats gonna be sweet.

Sorry if this'll disappoint the more experienced ITR drivers out there, but...
I can't say that I'll be wringing it out much this event. The ITR will most likely beat the Type S on the track for several reasons, least of all LSD and tires (see above). This is my first event with this car and at this track, and since I've got to drive it home Sunday night without bent bodywork or broken parts, I don't plan on going much more than 8/10ths. This coming spring will be a better time to judge, when I can get better rubber on the car and am more used to driving it on the road and the track. I'll only have about 1200 miles on the car by VIR weekend, anyway, so I don't want to abuse it too bad.
These events are not about one car "beating" another anyway. We're all out there to have good, clean fun and let the cars breathe deeply full of VTEC, burn up some brake pads, and meet some cool people with the same need for the adrenaline rush of track driving.
See ya all at VIR!

hey man, if u are lookin for tires, look in to the Falken Azien. i got them for my RSX type S and they handle great, nice handling, grip, and better acceleration. i plan to be in the nasa race in jan, maybe this week but not to sure, but keep an eye out for me. late

Thanks for the tip - did you stay with the stock wheel and tire size or did you upgrade wheels and go for a wider or larger diameter?
I'm definitely going to get another set of wheels/tires for the track only, and debating whether to stay with 16x7 wheels or up it to 17x7.
The Falken Azenis Asymetrical don't come in all the sizes I'm considering, as I want to keep the wheel/tire diameter the same as stock for speedo/odo/ABS sensor calibration.

when i went with the Falken aziens. i keep the stock rim. if u go to a bigger rim like a 17 or 18 u might lose performance. 17 is pushing it, but 18 are to big. keep the 16's and go with a lighter rim. im considering spoon. but the falken aziens are great tires.

You see VW GTI's do that all the time. I think road&track noticed that the car does that, so you might get to see it. That's if the crappy stock michelins get enough grip - otherwise, you'll see me drifting through all the turns
I had a 97 ITR before with me over 50days lapping on tracks in TORONTO CANADA,MOSPORT PARK AND SHANNONVILLE,i really like DC2R..till RSX-S come out,i got one on last two month.i bring it to the track with 400km ,the RSX-S give me a really really good feel too..and the lap time is really close to my old DC2R 183HP129TQ,i just put on AP 4 pot brake on the front and lower spring..K&N+2.5 cat back system,i got 187HP and 132TQ at the wheel..you can see my pictures at CLUBRSX.com my user name is DC2R
I've seen a rsx-r and a itr go at it on the track both cars where pretty even but on the straight the rsx-r just pulled away. the only thing i have seen from the rsx is it going up against a gsr pretty close I must say.
Well, if it's any indication, Honda supposedly tested a GSR vs. the RSX-S on some track in Japan (maybe a portion of Suzuka or Fuji?) and the RSX-S was about 3-4 seconds faster per lap (total lap time was about 54 seconds for the RSX-S).
Also, some magazine recently tested the RSX-S vs. the Celica GT-S vs. the Eclipse GT and I believe the RSX-S had the fastest average lap time. That should give you some idea as to how fast it is on the track.

if that were true i would know about it...the only I have seen that was publicized was the one best Motoring did over the summer at Tsukuba Circuit between the DC5 ITR and the DC2 ITR. The DC5 won by a sec (which I must admit is pretty substancial)...seeing that the Type S is heavier and has 20 less horses, i doubt it could do better than the DC5 type R.
The test was done by Honda in-house during the pre-production phase of the RSX. The results were published by a european or american magazine - I remember reading about the test a few months ago when I browsing the magazines at a barnes & nobles store. I'm pretty sure the magazine wouldn't lie about something like that. Anyway, the test was between the RSX-S and the GSR, not the RSX-S and ITR.
Sorry, but id say the ITR would kick the RSX all over the track. Drag or road, but esp. on a roadcourse or auto-x.
