Default who knew valve springs could make such a big difference

i built my b16 and put in rocket f1 valve springs and ive been running it for awhile. i had a few minor problems with the motor. the main one was the fact that the valve springs bound up on vtec. they wore the **** out of my exhaust cam. well i changed the springs and all of the other problems are fixed! i couldnt believe it.

i had a low idle problem that is now fixed.
i had bad throttle response from a stumble off idle.
my oil pressure was abnormally low at idle which is now always over 20psi. it also took a long time every morning to get oil pressure on my gauge, since it doesnt idle at 400 it goes up to 2k and gets oil circulating.
my engine was always scalding hot, like friction hot. that was why i heat wrapped my 'cold air'. now its touchable.
i had a vibration at 4-5000rpm that went away.

i just couldnt couldnt believe how much better it runs without those junk gen 1 rocket springs. they were so tight, i had to use all my weight with my valve spring tool to get them out. not to mention they ruined my brand new CTR cams.

i should also mention that i brought the problem up to rocket and he sent me the new better springs for free.

Any idea what the rates were on the aftermarket spings you were using?

It sounds like you used some HEAVY springs with a stock cam. Bad idea.
Heavy springs are for big lobe cams. Cam manufacturers can usually let you know what rate spring you need to use.

Good that you have that problem solved though! COOL - another satisfied honda-tech member!
