I recently replaced my valve seals in a D16Y7 in the hopes that it would cure my oil burning when I accelerate from a standing idle. It did not. Regardless, I learned afterwards that I had reinstalled the valve springs upside-down. This was because they started out upside-down (well, most of them anyway) and I wasn't bright enough to check the manual about it.

What problems if any does this cause? The only thing I can imagine would be possible damage to the valve seals as they are not currently surrounded by dead coils but at the same time, other Honda motor's valve springs don't even seem to have dead coils so maybe it's not a problem.

Any advice/input would be greatly appreciated.

So if you know you installed them incorrectly why not fix the defect instead of worrying about what damage they'd cause? Trying to understand this.

or you could ya know open the head back up and re-install them correctly.

if you know they're wrong why just let it go and hope for the best? take you an hour tops if you have the tools.

Takes me longer than an hour and I just spent the day under the car trying to solve my oil leak. I don't have lots of time to work on my civic during the week which is why I asked in the first place.

Looks like you're going to have to find "more than an hour" to fix it. Haven't found anything that it's okay to run like this and what I did find was not very much. Probably;y because not a lot of people tend to do this.

having the spring upside down will not make a huge difference, until you get to the higher rpm's. A buddy of mine did this once, it ran fine, until he went to about 9k on a pass, then floated the valve, and then we found it in the exhaust and all over the track. SUCKED!
