Well guys, she's gone and my days as an ITR owner are over.
Kind of a long story, but I have a few minutes.
Wednesday: I'm making my usual run through town and after hitting up the bank I make a stop at the local cigar shop to grab a smoke and relax for an hour or two. While I'm there an older man I'm unfamiliar with walks outside and begins to inspect my vehicle. I pay him little mind as I light up an Ashton VSG. A few minutes later he walks in and takes a seat next o me.
"I don't suppose you'd be interested in getting rid of it," he says right before picking up a Cohiba XV.
"Anything's for sale if the price is right," I respond to him, "what are you offering."
"Well, I'm not really looking at the car from the standpoint that most will look at it. A good friend of mine is looking for a dedicated track car and only has interest in the chassis."
"As I said, anything's for sale if the price is right. In fact if I were to part with it, I'd prefer to keep a few things, most notably a few interior pieces and a few suspension components," I say back to him.
"How much do you owe on the car?"
"About eight grand, give or take."
"Alright, here's what's going to happen. I'm going to be back here on Monday with eight thousand dollars. Take whatever parts from the car you want, we won't be using any of them, all we need is the frame. I'll be here at 10:00 Monday morning, have it ready to go."
Friday: "Kendall, what the hell are you doing," My partner Tony asks, "you just got that engine running."
"I have incentive, I"ll explain later."
Saturday: I effectively gut the car down to nothing, save the frame. Everything is removed, everything down to the hard lines, the gas tank, and the wiring harness. Even the doors, the hatch, and the front body panels. Every nut, bolt, and screw was completely removed from the car.
Monday: I arrive at Sir Tom's Tobacco at about 9:30 and light up a Partagas Lusitania. At precisely 10:00, the man walked in and counted out eight thousand dollars.
"Let's go to the bank," I said.
In Conclusion: As of 12:53 Eastern Standard Time. I am no longer the owner of a 2001 Acura Integra Type R, however I am still the owner of every last nut and bolt. I have my complete suspension, my complete interior, my minime, the five lug setup, the radiator, the doors, the door hinges, the complete wiring harness, and everything else. I have now begun the search for a hatch that I will be building. As for now, I'll continue life without an ITR, however I will own another in due time.
I would like to thank everyone here in the ITR forum for making my ownership of my Integra Type R some of the greatest days of my life. I'll be in and out probably as much as I always have been.
PS: Don't IM me about buying any of my parts, I'll have a big "For Sale" post in the classifieds here in about a week. I'll post a link here in the ITR forum.

It was a risk I was willing to take. Plus a complete tear down and rebuild of the car would have allowed me to take care of a few things I have been wanting to do for a while anyway. Things like installing the RS non-ABS setup and rewiring the engine compartment harness to exclude the wiring for things that have long since been removed. Plus I needed to readjust the suspension again, replace the brake rotors, rewire the engine harness to accept a 4 wire O2 sensor rather than the 1 wire setup I have been running. And a million other things. It was an inevitable project.

Wow....why did you want to get rid of it though? Were you just wanting something else now? Make sure the link is up, I definitely want to see what parts you have for sale...

I had absolutely no intention of selling it, however his offer was just too good. I would have loved to keep it, in fact I was within about two weeks of ordering the K20 swap I have been planning.

Hey, you'd have done the same thing in my situation. Now just look at all these great parts I have left over to build a hatch with.
