Odd noises comming from 94 h22a engine, possibley transmission
While my car is in neutral, if I let my foot off of the clutch I will hear a SHHHHH sound. It also makes this sound while accelerating in any gear. It is getting much louder.
I also noticed that If I downshift, I hear a winding noise. I hope that I don't have to spend tons of money to fix this.
My passenger axle has fitiment issues and sometimes leaks a little MTF. Would low MTF cause the problems that I am hearing?

sounds to me like your mainshaft bearing(nearest the shaft splines) is going south. bearing is about $30-40 dollars plus $8 for mainshaft oil seal and $14 honda bond. and a good old toolbox.

</TD></TR></TABLE> great, those prices sound good.
How long do you think that this will take for a newb such as myself. I will use a helms.
The car is a eh2 (92-95 civic).

well for the first time, I'm going to say about 6 hours total dropping the trans and opening it and installing on car.
hmmm, I called a mechanic and he said that with the problem that I am having, the whole tranny needs to be rebuilt.
I think that that is a pile of ****. He said that the problem about the clutch making a noise while my foot is off of the clutch has a big chance of not being the throw bearing. $1200 dollars? WTF most places charge $350 for a throw bearing.
Anyone recommend a mechanic in Los Angeles County,CA, near long beach if possible?
The reason why I am afraid of doing this is that I read my helms manual and it looks like I will have to drop the whole tranny and I don't think that I have the tools to take on that task.
With it being a prelude in a eh2, I don't know if I can do this without having to remove the whole tranny.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
