Default ZC Question....Sort of...Maybe...

OK...so heres the dealy-o. I am picking up my buddies 88 Si CRX pretty soon (within a week or 2) And i am wondering if this is possible...:

I was asking him what motor was in it (he wasnt really sure either because the previous owner did some sort of a japanese motor swap.)

So then, he cleaned off the part where the engine code is..."ZC"...and i says to him "Thats weird...i could have sworn the ZC was DOHC?" Well...it had the stock CRX Si head (SOHC) 16 valve, and i think the zc is also 16 valve. it had the stock MPFI, and all the other stock SI accesories...i think this is extremely weird.

what kind of power will this make? will this be a good block for the mini me setup?

and also : whats this about "controlled oversteer"?

thanks everyone!!!

Nope, theres lots of Sohc Zc's

Ive got one, spray on it daily, great motor

They make 119hp, not much more than oem but I got it for really cheap so it was worth it, bolts up the the OEM si tranny

I think the only difference in the sohc zc is the cam profile

Im also in Ontario, watch out the cops dont catch you with it, cop told me he could take it no problem because I didnt have the papers for it and I dont think your buddy will either

Good luck

if you build the sohc zc..its very reliable...stock in my 89 weighting 2390, i pulled a 15.64 @ 88 w/a slipping clutch...they have alot of potential...but most like to "flame" on the sohc zc...i think its a nice motor

exactly...the cam is more agressive...which gives it 10 extra hp

the sohc zc is a buff little motor, it just lacks the top end of the dohc. i had a dohc zc, and i love those motors, you just can't over power them unless you build them up. mine lasted about 5 years of abuse! 15.0 at 92 i/h/e
