Default Valve train making a LOT of noise? GET IT LOOKED AT!!!!

Because mine was,and lastnight the motor let loose...So far it seems like the timing chain skipped/stretched and took all the valves out with it...Im going to yank it/tear it down and see exactly what happened this week......If your motors gettin loud,(mine ticked like CRAZY)get the valves adjusted,or at least inspect the top end of the motor, because it BLOWS when you blow up a motor in a 2 year old car(no pun intended)

Thanks very much for sharing this information.

How many miles on your car?

Were there any unusual occurrences that you can recall? Mis shifts? Over revving?

Any modifications to the motor?

Yes, and 02's are still under warranty. Why aren't you going to take it back to the dealership? Did you have NAWS on it or something?

Thats why I have valve adjustments done every 30k. Even though Honda/Acura told me it wasn't necessary. GL

How much does it cost to do these adjustments? My engine ticks somewhat more than it used to.

because this k20 motor uses timing chain, most likely is the tensioner let loose.

just because its an 02 dosent mean there is still a warranty....FYI,the car had 54k on the clock, with just i/h/ Hondata,no NAWS thank you very much..The car was used for daily driving and HPDE events....Found out what it was lastnight anyways..Retainer broke in half and let the valve get too friendly with the #3 piston

I kinda figured it wasn't the timing chain, that seemed pretty unlikely... not impossible though

was it just the one valve damaged or was there more?

So far it looks like 1....but the retainers all shifted on the valves, and the rocker assembly springs all blew out and stretched....there are a lot of small parts that flew through the head when this happened, mostly the springs from the rocker assy.......I havent had time to fully tear it down,so im sure there is more damage than ive seen so far.But what i did see was bad enough for me

So how often did you visit the 7700rpm redline since you had the Hondata upgrade?

every day,lol........i never really took it past 7 at HPDEs though for some reason....And the other odd part is the fact that on the dyno fuel cut occured at 7950;its an OLD Hondata proggy;the second beta tester on the streets, had it a month before the public could get it......

I think I mentioned this on the other site but there are several oil return passages leading from the head down to the windage plate and oil pan, you might have some stray parts you need to hunt down
