Default Need Help with Idle Control Valve

I just started having problems yesterday. My idle fluctuates between 1 - 1.75 grand RPM's when I'm in park or neutral. I am pretty sure it is the Idle control valve. Has anyone replaced this on a 2.2? If so, did you have to take the throttle body off, and how much did you pay for the part/install? I am new to the boards and really appreciate your help. If it makes any difference I have an 96 Accord LX that is an automatic.

you checked for vacummn leaks? all the little coolant hoses on the tb connected properly... for me the iac was pretty easy to take off without removing the Im or tb, once the 2 bolts comes off the bottom has 2 hoses, clean the screen and such and reverse for install.

i think they were 12mm's if i remember right...

We checked the connections and no luck. We are going to try and pull it off today and clean it with brake cleaner. Hopefully I won't have to replace it because best price I can find so far is $210. Thanks for the info.

Try cleaning it first before you replace it and don't use anything sharp to remove the screen, don't break/tear the screen

It is regular that it only does it then. It you pull the plug going to it it will throw your check engine light, but it will work perfect because it just throws a known good signal off it.

I got it fixed. I am so happy. I really appreciate all your help. I had to pull if off twice, first time it wasn't as bad, then the second it was totally gone.

Well what I ended up doing is first, I tried just taking the two bolts that held it in and left the two hoses on the bottom connected. I noticed that it did have a lot of crap in there. I sprayed it with brake cleaner and bolted it back up. I noticed that the problem was still there, but not as bad.

I figured I would give it another try because it was a $200 part. This time I pulled it completely off; both bolts and both hoses. I then used about a half of can of brake cleaner on it. I laid it down flat on its back and let the cleaner soak for a couple minutes and I repeated this about five times. I put it back on and it worked!! Then I realized I left the rubber piece that seals it off so I had to take it off again.

As far as location goes it is directly in the middle of the back. Like I said it has two bolts holding it in, and it has two little black hoses running off the bottom. If you need more info let me know.

I am not sure about the oil...mine had some sort of crap built up in it. Use brake cleaner to soak it.

ditto 87 accord lxi, 2.0L

just give it a little gas and it solves the problem. its fast idle at 1.8grand is still in spec (1400+ or - 400 if i recall)
my dad who had the car before me said that he noticed when he kept the coolaint topped off it did it a little less..... i dunno i haven't tried that...... haynes manual says its a PCV valve, but i've heard of people replacing those and the problem not going away.

i'll have to look in that manual to find out ehre
