itrsport.com's fuel mileage
Now Jason says he got 377 miles on a full tank of fuel, which comes to about 33 mpg. I attemtped this for the first time last week, and managed to go only 261 miles on a full tank. With the needle slightly below the E sign, I think I could have driven another 5-10 miles, so let's just say I got 270. That still leaves me well short of his mark, although I am happy with 24 mpg. I achieved the results in city driving entirely, I didn't make a single hwy trip, and didn't alter my driving habits, (hitting VTEC at least twice a day, etc).
Now, why the big disparity? Jason, was all of your driving hwy miles when you hit that mark? Has anyone else attempted to measure their own mileage this way?

I get 190miles to the fill up! lol Thats of course with a air/fuel ratio of 12.5!!! With tons of VTEC hits and city street driving! lol
I would say I would get 240 at best but probally more likely of 220 with my driving habits.

well a couple gas tanks ago i got like 272. i always shift at 3-4k and hit vtec once a day or so. But i had never gotten in the 300's yet. 377 sounds freakin crazy, i dont think i can get that.lol
Well not to be picky but his name is Josh, josh jason whatever. Anyhow I'd have to imagine that milage must have been all freeway on the way back to Indiana. I usually only get 220miles to a tank, but I do like the gas pedal, alot
I usually average about 25mpg or so, though I drive it rather enthusiastically...
I averaged about 10mpg on an open lapping day at the track...

I get around 290-310 mpg miles before the gas light switches on(which means i can still go some ways), on a full tank most of the time. This is the mileage that i most commonly get. This is my normal driving on streets and highways which is always slightly spirited driving with VTEC at least once a day so trust me it isnt any granny driving. I usually take 1st 2nd and 3rd up to 8k before i get home on this long stretch every night.
Sometimes when i do a lot of hard driving i'll get 260-280mpg I've never gotten as poor mileage as what you guys are getting. I dont understand why you guys would be getting such low mileage.

The 377 miles was actually done with 11.28 gallons of fuel, not an entire tank of gas. Considering that our fuel tanks are 13.2 gallons I could have traveled about 435 miles on an FULL tank (assuming I continued to average 33 mpg).
That record mpg was almost entirely freeway driving while traveling about 75 mph.
You CAN NOT record fuel economy by assuming you used an entire tank of gas or by looking at the fuel gauge.
Here's the best and simple way to record fuel economy - as mentioned on my site
"During your next stop to fuel-up your vehicle follow this procedure. Reset your trip odometer to zero and completely fill the fuel tank with gas. No numbers or receipts are used from the initial fill-up.
Next time you visit the gas pump fill up with fuel and record the number of miles you traveled from your trip meter. You now can accurately calculate the fuel economy of your vehicle from the last tank of gas. For example, lets say the receipt indicates that 8.4 gallons were pumped and your trip meter shows 240 miles were traveled. Divide 240 miles by the 8.4 gallons to observe a 28.57 mpg average. Reset the trip odometer and repeat this procedure to continue with future calculations.
The trick to accurate fuel economy estimations is consistently filling the tank to the top every time to the same level. I suggest you use the automatic shut off feature on the pump spicket."

Has anyone else attempted to measure their own mileage this way?
I've gotten around 33 mpg before on a roadtrip to DC.
Around 30 mpg where I used to live(all highway to work), and now I get around 26-28 mpg.
My average gas mileage as of ~7500 miles:
30.4x miles per gallon (best 32.xx, worst 24.xx wth?)
I hit VTEC almost everday... but I don't stay in VTEC for no more than 5-10 sec. AutoX is a different story.

I get 240-260 miles fom a full tank down to the last tick before E. Thats with 70% freeway driving and VTEC only three or four times a week. The pumps say this is usually around 9 gallons.
In town with some highway driving, I have got 240-260 between fill ups. On the highway I have had a few trips that were all highway miles and hit about 33 MPG. Yes, that was with the mods...

my gas mileage sucks....i usually hit v-tec once a day...depending on if im at the track....the best i ever got was 227 to the tank, and that was the first tank of gas from the dealer...usually 190 though...plus i dont really think all my mugen stuff helps either...
Gas mileage varys BIG TIME from reformulated gas (alcohol or MTBE added) and non-reformulated (the good stuff). Seems like the reformulated gas burns quicker due to the alcohol added to it, but I'm not an expert on combustion. Being so close to a non-emmisions county here in WI, though, I can get the good gas (non-reformulated).

Damn you guys must love VTEC, I do too but I still consistantly get 275-310 Miles per fill up. That includes both city and Highway, and plenty of VTEC to keep me happy. I'm stock too except the removal of the resonator, and a DYI Icebox.

With crappy short 4 mile trips and VTEC every gear (well, just about)? And numerous runs to redline? 19 mpg! Woot!
With a long-haul freeway driving at 90mph+? 32 mpg. Woot! Woot!
Aaaahh, what the hell - gas is cheap again!
Drive it like you stole it. F fuel economy.

I've gotten like 332miles (all highway) until the fuel indicator light came on. I was testing to see how much I can stretch it by driving like a fuel miser. The test was a little tainted since I did speed a couple of times because I couldn't take it. Needless to say, the test was torture and will probably never do it again. haha
