Turn your wheel full lock to the left to get it your steering rack out.
It's messy - have many shop towels on hand to keep things cleaned up.
Might as well replace the boots & regrease while you're in there.
Don't Forget - You will need to buy new lock washers - one for each side (they sit next to the stopper washers).

I never said to 'pack' the boot with grease. Please do not get the wrong idea; however, saying that the inner tie rod end should not be greased is false.
Having both the Helms for the 90-91 Civc, and the 95 Del Sol, I often refer to both manuals. I have found on some occasions that the later manuals are more detailed...
From page 17-13 of the 95 Del Sol manual:
"15. Apply grease to the circumference of the rack end housing."
"16. Coat the rack end [inner tie rod] groove and inside of the boot with silicone grease."
I do not find any reference in the 90-91 Helms manual that says not to apply grease to the rack end (inner tie rod) - it is also covered with grease when you disassemble that portion of the steering rack.
If I remember correctly, the rack ends cost something in the neighborhood of $45 each. The grease is there to protect those parts.

alright, by the way you first worded everything, you made it seem like i had to put a **** load of grease in the boot and had to drop the steering rack...
either way thanks for the help...

I am trying to remove my inner tie rod. I am having a hard time getting off the "bending" lock tab. Does anyone have any pointers on how to unbend it?
Or is it possible to get the nut off without unbending the lock tab...

You can try inserting a flat head screwdriver, etc. perpendicular to the lock washer & work it in between the flat & the lock washer tab that is bent over it. You'll have to use a hammer to drive the screwdriver in there.
I usually have to work it from both sides. Be patient, and try to keep as much material on the tab as possible (see next step).
At a certain point, the screwdriver will only push the tab up so far, so you will have to use channel locks, or a big enough pair of plyers to bend it back to it's original shape (should be somewhat easy at this point).
