ok guys, me and my friends have done a few things to this '92 civic already.
we're going to do a mini me sometime soon but right now we want to change this things Drivetrain to AWD and we have a CRV transmission sitting in the basement (just need to drag its *** up here). we do have some things like the rear axle and its setup. and the driveshaft. ~EDIT: we have deicided to say screw the D motor and get a B-series, i caused a bit of confusion so just dont worry bout it.~
i know that not everyone can answer this in this forum, i'm just trying this one since it is a '92 civic an i know people have done big tranny mods. i am also going to try the tech forum. We really want this car to be AWD cause we're going to be participating in our city's dirt races and this will be the first AWD '92 civic there.
i do have some questions though (I HAVE SEARCHED).

1. Do we need a new Shift linkage? If we do which one, we can still get the same one from the CRV we found lying shitless.
2.are we going to need different mounting brackets or are the 92's ok?
3.do the front axles need to come off the CRV or are the '92's axles ok?
*rumor question* 4. i just needed to know about this one some dude told me you need a different flywheel for this tranny, was he speaking the truth or just shitting me?

thats all. right now this civic has been dynoed at 136 HP and we hope this thing can really be a great dirt track racer. but we need this AWD cause there are deep muddy ditches involved. I heard of a dude that used to go to this track, he did an AWD conversion on his '96 Civic LX and he actually beat some AWD Mistu's into hell.

oh yeah, 1 more thing, do we use the same transmission gasket from the '92 or do we use the CRV's?

 

i would look for JDM civic "realtime awd" pieces. the 91.5-95 civic was available with awd in japan, but it came only with an auto tranny.

 

well we do have a small problem is that we only have $650 right now to do this and if we need parts we'll use the parts off this '96 CRV we found in my cousin's backyard. it looks coll cause it has weeds growing out of it. and we're saving the $650 for the mini-me and a new driver's rally seat. the stock seat sux on those corners. and we cant find anything else and i bet some of those pieces will cost.

also are you talking about those old 91 Civic station wagons we have in the USA? cause some of those are AWD too. and i think since we're using a CRV tanny there will be some difference in the parts. oh yeah btw the CRV is a 4 speed.

correct me if im wrong... but isnt the CRV transmission a b series tranny. and if your doing a minime im assuming your working with a d series engine. how do you plan on using the Crv transmission with the d series enigne? maybe i misread something so could you clarify

cause we're going to end up taking the block out the CRV and then put a different valve train. sorry i wasnt too clear, should of said we we're going to the block but the block is a little easy thing for us.
. and yes i will get pics if i can find a digi cam. and i'll try a vid too. i think they do video at the track anyway.

 

But a Mini-Me is a D15 block and D16 head. If you're going to be popping the block out of the CRV, it's a B-series block and can't be mated to a D-series cylinder head. If I were you, swap everything. Motor, tranny, etc...B20s have some good torque which is better for your "rally racing".

AHHH!! confusion!!!
ok we decided to say screw the whole frikin engine cause we're just going to go buy a whole new b-series motor(or used) and use that with the tranny. the only problem we have are those few questions from before

you should read some of the past issues of honda tuning, thay made an dc2 teg awd, its not cheap by anymeans. there is alot of work involved with getting the rear end in the thing. plus if your going to be rally racing you better get on some serious body bracing. basicaly eeverything from the firewall back needs to come from the crv. theres no tunnel for the driveshaft. the crv linkage should work as long as your using all the crv floorpan and whatnot. you just need to pull the motor tranny, transfer case and loose items out of the crv, just to clarify, is the crv auto or manual.

as a side note... I scrapped my idea of doing this around two years ago but still have some parts if anyone is looking.

2000 CRV 5speed transmission, around 12000 miles on it. Matching starter, all tranny mounts, shifter, and shift cables. Make offers of course..

Why not use the crv? Im sure fixing that would be a lot
less work, and it would be a lot more stable.

Im all for cool projects, I have many of my own that most
people consider stupid wastes of time, but if your really building
this thing to win, I would use a platform that was ment to be awd.

 

for 650bucks, I dont think you'll be making anything AWD.

 

I have tried and searched...i learned the JDM AWD civic trannys can't handle anything above 160whp. The driveshaft is to weak and would snap....as for a CR-V tranny good luck fitting it...and if you do better hope it is strong enough

Good luck. I doubt you can get any progress with $650 and FYI you will have to weld on pieces and parts and I hope you have a fab shop that will work for you for free. If you think about it the body is not designed for AWD so almost any civic will be off the ground by atleast 5" to clear the flat rear body. Not worth it at all. your going to spend at least a minumim of $8K on this job (unless you do the welding yourself and save $2K) but the hardest parts it to make sure the rear drive shafts are at the right angle, If your driving it on the freeway and your off by .020 you will get a bad balance and it could snap off..
