Default are pulleys really worht it??

i searched at the top only to find 5 topics on pulleys and i was thinking about getting aem or unorthodox pulleys next on my car....i have a 99 si with an aem v2 intake and i was just curious if anyone knew any information on how much gain if any pulleys would do or is it even worth it....or should i do something else first??

I had the AEMs on my EX a while back. The alternator pulley is smaller than the OE pulley, which leads to charging problems and stalling. I ended up running only the PS pulley, which made no difference.

IMO, they are a waste of money.

i'd save up for turbo and not even bother with that little **** that just wastes money

or some wild n/a cams with a sick 10,000 rpm valvetrain, thats fun too

Unorthodox racing has a series that doesn't affect the alternator, never had one, but heard they were a better brand than AEM....

not if it's combined with a valvtrain and cams that support it.......

I had some friends run the UR pulleys and like the slight gain they felt.... and I heard opinions going both ways around here, I haven't had one on my car, so I can't say exactly how I feel about them....

i was thinking about getting headers first dc headers but they aren't really worth the 3-5 hp increase when i could get some comptech ones that increase 10 hp....but i really would like to know if pulleys actually would give any type of hp increase....trickhonda...were they hard to install and are they casuing you can trouble?? thanks

I put power pulleys on my hx and noticed a little increase, granted it wasn't much by any means but the car does feel a little bit quicker, and I've never had any major problems with the charging system... my lights do get dim at night sitting while I'm stopped but then I do have a stereo installed also. I'd say as long as you drive far enough to charge back up what you use to start it you'd be fine. Since you have a b series they respond very well to bolt ons and I'm sure you would feel some difference.

i have a 92 dx hatch with the jdm d15b vtec. the motor jdm came with a 3 belt crank pulley that weighed 5 lbs even. the dx crank pulley was a 2 belt and weighed 3.5lbs. so i put it on, and yes, i noticed a difference. the unorthodox weighs less than that, and ive talked to a couple of guys that run the unorthodox crank pulley and they said it was a noticeable difference in throttle response, same as me, so i would run a crank pulley, but the underdrive pulleys are probably not worth the 1hp youll gain.

what u were saying about the headers, dont make ur choice on claims, thos are almost always bs, and theres so many factors to each one. Like have u ever noticed in ads where like an exhaust system ADDS 30 HP!!!!!!, and then u read the small print and the car is on like 20lbs of boost and its compared to the stock exhasut... Ignore claims. Also, dont get a chip that will allow to rev to 10000 rpm when ur valvetrain cant support it, ur begging for a very expensive failure. You only can rev that high if u have the appropriate cams, valvesprings, etc. And finally, dont spend a penny until u know exactly what ur going through and uunderstand everything about that component. Good luck, and search and ask questions to learn more.
