what year civic do you have, what motor?

What kind of thermostat did you use? Generic thermostats such as autozone or kragen are notorious for being defective.

What engine are you working on?

I know that some engines have a bolt on top of the thermostat housing that releases air and is used for bleeding and some are near where the upper rad. hose connects to the block (where it was on the lude). But I am pretty sure some don't have the aforementioned bolt.

Is your water pump good? Rad cap good? Rad hoses? Your fan switch might also be bad which would cause it to overheat if you are stopped alot. Just check everything associated with the system and don't get frustrated. Good luck!
