Default JDM Steering Wheel Install Help

Got a bit of a problem on the install.

Stock wheel and SRS reel out, no problem.

Get the new wheel in, and the 'snout' (lack of a better term) that mates with the steering column is much shorter than the stock USDM unit.

When I tighten the bolt down, its about 1/8" or so too far off the steering wheel hub for it to tighten against it.

I'm assuming I need a washer to cover this distance? Also looks like the wheel just barely clears the column covers and may scratch them up - this is normal?

Chris N is a scamma! w00t w00t!

RJ, I had to use a round piece of ABS, drilled a hole thru it big enough for the steering column. Then notched it to fit the st/wheel hub and the signal canceler (lack of a better term). I also did something else with my 2nd wheel I bought that didn't require anything to make it fit, but it has been too long ago to remember.

Kris En is a scamma...

Is this the SRS wheel or non-SRS? On my JDM SRS wheel install I had none of the issues you described. I know that doesn't help you, but I thought it was odd...

OH!!! I remember what I did. The signal canceler..... pull it off. I then put a spacer behind it to close the gap between it and the hub. I can't remember what I used, but it was plastic and it worked. With the hub splines not being long enough to fully go onto the column, I would suggest that you don't over tighten the nut down or you could damage the st/column splines. (I didn't damage mine too bad.)

Another alternative would be to grind off the splines in the st/hub an 1/8" so it completely inserts onto the column.... but I didn't feel comfortable doing that.

Stacked a washer between the nut and the wheel, its on fine. I'm going to replace the nut since I threaded it on and off about 10 times though.

One other question for you JDM ****** - the center console (armrest eliminator) - Is there a 'JDM Ebrake bracket' that doesnt stick up? Or should I just pull the USDM one off and cut it down?

RJ, when the wheel is inserted on the column, does it mate up with the signal canceler assembly or was the nut just not holding the wheel down?

Just incase some folks that want to buy a JDM wheel and saw what I posted and are having second thoughts.......I NOW remember I had to do those mods when I installed the MOMO Club 3 wheel with MOMO hub.

The JDM wheel was a direct bolt-on... with the shoe horn so the horn would work of course.
