don't even try to pry at all.....
take a rod/pipe/handle, etc, and pound with a hammer on the best angle you can get on the axle hub. Easiest and safest way

Emerika pretty much summed it up. On a side note I remember try to pull the drivers axle out of a tranny once, wouldn't budge, had to pull the joint and remove the tranny to get it out... apparently the previous owner had used blue loctite to hold it in lol.
