Default Overheating in traffic???

Okay, my car has overheated 4 times in the past few monthes, causing coolant to spew all over the engine bay. This last instance leaves me with a cracked radiator. The overheating only occurs when im sitting in traffic! I can tear it up all night, but its only at a standstill that the problems occur. I suspect a bad water pump, but anyone else care to drop some comments?

set the heater to max hot and blast it when in traffic.
watch the needle go down.
not the answer, but a band aid until you fix it.
my ef9 (b16) w/ stock radiator used to do that a lot.

Yes, the fan is working. And the thing is, there is no impending sign of disaster, as the "needle" never goes beyond halfway until AFTER the spewing, then it shows hot.

First Id say fan if it only happens in traffic, but you say its working

Little JB weld will seal the crack in the rad if it isnt to bad

Sounds like you might need a water pump though

definitely make sure the fan is working. and check the thermostat. sometimes they stick and dont work properly and cause all kinds of problems, but the good thing is if it is the thermostat then its a cheap fix.

i had same problem but it turned out my fan was unplugged after swap. YOu sure its work and not your ac fan that you see turning on and off. Check to make sure both fans are working.

I agree sounds like thermostat.I had the same problem a few weeks ago it would start to overheat while sitting in traffic, but once i got air flowing through the radiator as i drove the temp would fall back down and then raise up again while i was sitting still.
