Default obd1 motor = obd1 alternator?

I need an alernator, well rebuild, reman, whatever.

Since the motor is a b16 obd1, car is obd2, the alternator HAS to be obd1? or will a 99-00 si obd2 alternator work?

I know its possible to wire an obd1 alternator into an obd2 wiring harness, but not 100% sure on the exact wiring instructions (if there is any) for your obd1 harness to get the obd2 alternator to work.

i am using an obd2 ex harness, and an obd2 - 1 conversion.

Does that mean I dont have to rewire for it?

I was reading a thread earlier where advanracing62 on this board wired an obd2 wiring harness to an obd1 alternator. If you already have an obd2 wiring harness then i believe an obd2 alternator should work.

It's possible. I built a big wiring harness out of an OBD1 and an OBD2 put together. It still needs an OBD1 ecu, but I can use either a 1 or 2 alternator/dizzy/injectors. I even wired in a resistor box option so I can run low or high impedence injectors either style. Took some extra time to do, but it has been infinitely helpful in my options for parts and last second replacements when need be.

But yes, the alternator will work if wired correctly. I would just recommend against cutting the old plug off when you could just splice in with the option to maybe run a different alternator later.

Next step is splicing in a GM 3 bar map sensor plug.
