Flex pipe dilemma...
I will be soon buying a jdm 4-1 mating to a high flow cat and im wondering whether i need a flex pipe. is it necessary or just overkill?
At the same time i will be installing a custom 2.5" catback with a magna oval.
My setup is a b18c1 in a 92 EG.
Anyt help would be much appreciated.

ideally a flex pipe would be best, if you dont mind hacking up ur brand new header, and have the room for a flex pipe definitely weld one in. if not you can get away with using those donut gasket type things to get aroudn the flex pipe, but they dont seal as good.
but in any event, please have some sort of flex section in there, be it a flex pipe or a donut gasket, because if you dont' i gurantee you cracked welds in ur exhaust system in no time.

I would stay away from flex pipes. They are not smooth inside and do not flow very well. Plus flex pipes tend to crack over time on the inside, resulting in exhaust leaks.
Running with a donut gasket and spring bolts should allow the engine to flex and torque as needed. That's my recommendation.
