yea the polish is important. after u sand it, the headlights will look worse than they did before u started. dont get all crazy. use polish...
make sure its polish, not wax and youll be dandy

depending on how bad the plastic is oxidized, you may not need to wetsand the headlights... from my old thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=504832

Always start with the least abrasive method possible first, and if that doesn't work, move up. You might also want to try some Meguiar's PlastX...

Do you do that to the outside only or is the yellowing coming from the inside too? Please let me know because my HID's are looking yellow because of it.

for mine, yellow was only on outside.. i dont think they can yellow from inside..?
try using bunmango's method first on the outside, if no work, use that sanding method on outiside. then if it still no work, then buy new headlights

but really, i think the sanding method is one of the best b/c u get a fresh layer of plastic b/c u sand away the old ****. i noticed the surface of the headlight is smoother too.. after sanding most of the rock chips and the headlights go away
BUMP! i tried this step by step process when my jdm one pieces started to yellow out too. this method works perfectly! it will leave your headlights look new.
HAHA Iv been gettin raged on for a while now about my headlights. I think its time I ran to walmart and got me some polish and sand paper too. Hope it will work, I mean I really messed them up before. What happend was there was some paint on them from when the car got new paint on there. Well when changing over to my BMX front bumper I realized that the paint was now visible with the new bumper. Scraped at it a couple times, but didnt come off. (warning) Grabed paint stripper (uugh they should say on the bottle, DONT USE ON HEAD LIGHTS.) Anyways it freaken eat the plastic up. Think this is going to take some heavy sanding followed by wet sand, and poslish. Wish me luck.
If the 1500grit doesnt work, you can start with a lower grit. I started with 600, 1000, 1500, and then 2000 with no problems. You have to use the rubbing compund to get out the tiny scratches leftover from the sanding and then finish with a plastic cleaner and polish.

yeah..paint thinner will eat your plastic up.....everything above is great advice. Use the sandpaper.....start at like...1000 grit..that's not too bad. Best results with a aircompressor to buff everything out with the polish. Mothers and Blue Magic are great together...good combo. Also, 3m makes a great buffing compound..black bottle with blue or red car on the front...rarely found at walmart...GOOD STUFF! Have fun, Im going to clean up my JDM lenses tonight..
