Swapping ITR final drive into LS tranny?
What is needed for this? Do you have to replace the other gears? If so is it because of non hunting and hunting gears clashing? I dont know much about transaxles but I thought it would be like changing the final drive or rear end gear ratio in a RWD. Anyways its obvious that i dont know, so let me know what has to be changed, thx.
oh yeah, usdm ITR final is just a 4.4, its the JDM thats a 4.7, and you're silly for puttin a 4.7 in. i like driving down the highway myself.
driven over drive gives you your ratio for that gear, that doesn't change unless you change it by changing those gears. you're just changing the final which effects all gears, so you're equation would be right to give you the ratio at the axles, you also have to figure in wheel diameter to give vehicle speed and figure in engine speed to give vehicle speed at rpm. but if you change your final to that short of a final, vehicle speed at 7000 rpm will be slower. like 2nd normally takes you just shy of 60 at 7000, well, with the 4.7 it'll take you to around 45mph. top speed wont be 140 @ 7000 rpm in 5th, it'll be just over 100. but you'll have a crap load of torque multiplication so you'll get to these speeds quicker. the only problem i have with doing this is: cruising on the highway in 5th gear going 65 you'll be just above 4000rpm, and thats not cool on an LS (if thats what you're running.) you'll be in powerband sure, but try making a bunch of 3,4,5 hour road trips and see how long your engine lasts. besides that, fuel economy drops too.
If you want to swap an usdm typer/gsr final drive (4.4)..you will need the whole input shaft/final drive (ring gear.)
If you want a jdm itr 4.785 final drive it..BUy it brand new and it will come with all the necessary components for the install.
In my opinion if you want short gearing then it's better to get a gsr tranny for a cost effective upgrade or better a type r tranny if your planning to rev high.

what is your guys opinion on dropping a jdm fd into a gsr tranny b/c when my clutch goes out im putting that fd in.. what are the various gear speeds and the rpm's. like what does the jdm fd change the ever so popular mentioned 80mph @ 4k rpm in 5th gear to. i would like more info on what this does to a gsr tranny.
I had the 4.785 JDM FD in my tranny last year. At 70mph you are at 4,000 rpms. Its a great upgrade and its awesome for acceleration. It'll help you in any type of racing. I however, didn't enjoy highway driving. Neither did my friends following me because I went 65-70 the whole way.
Its great for auto-x, drag, street anything. Its a must if your going for an all motor buildup.

In the LS tranny, the JDM FD will be at around 3000 RPM at 60 mph, 3500 RPM at 70. Assuming 5th gear.
In the GS-R tranny the JDM FD will be around 3250 RPM at 60mph, 3750 RPM at 70. Assuming 5th gear.
Information taken from the Integra Gear Ratio Calculator on Team-Integra.net. Information also assuming you have stock GS-R wheels.

what wheels did u have. i roll on 17's in the summer

It's not the wheel size that matters, its the overall diameter of the tires. I believe a 215/40/17 is the same diamter of a 205/45/16 and about half an inch smaller than the stock 205/55/15's. All manufacturers vary slightly...
What really sucks about having the type-r FD is the problem where its rpm is at when you are at highway speeds... sometimes i wish i could put back my LS, but then i loose all my acceleration power in the lower gears.. argh...
