dude read your book it clearly states at the top that it is in inch pounds, and if you had the right tourqe wrench then it should of been fine i think you were using a regular tourqe wrench and you were using foot pounds not even close to the same so chad was correct in what he said next time read your manual more carefull

Dude! you're lucky they all didn't break. I usually do mine to 9-10 ft. lbs. You should replace ALL your bolts/studs now, because they are all probably fucked up...

well... no offence if you dont know the difference between inch lbs and ft lbs then changing the timing belt might be pretty hard.

On a SOHC motor its about a 1 hour job for timing belt/water pump tops.

I was just simply pointing out. If you take my advice or not is irrelevent. But if you ask any mechanic (which you were asking) if someone that doesnt know the difference between " lbs and ' lbs then they would recommend that they should not do serious maintenance to their car. Also, I mean it was pretty funny when you tried to prove that you were right and scanned in the torque specs. I mean, we all make mistakes, its just good to laugh about them. Seriously, dont take it personal, I've done lots of dumb things.

Anyway, just take your time and it is an easy thing to do.

Drain coolant, set motor to TDC Undo belts, remove valve cover, remove crank pulley, remove drivers side engine mount, remove timing belt cover, loosen timing belt tensioner, remove old timing belt, remove old pump, clean pump gasket surface, install new pump, install new belt, check TDC, adjust timing belt tensioner, reinstall all parts in reverse order.

That is it in a nutshell. If you feel comfortable doing all those things then you wont have a problem. Just remember, star pattern when you tighten the water pump and torque in steps for a more accurately torqued bolts. I would do 50in lbs then 105in lbs.

Take it with a grain of salt, im just some internet dude.

I can't believe you even thought that those little nuts and bolts would go anywhere near 80 ft lbs for a torque spec. Thats too funny and stupid at the same time.
