I'm in the market to buy an R. I found this one in Clearwater, FL on autotrader.com for a decent price. Minus the hideous wheels and taillights, does anyone know the previous owner or anything about this car's history? The car is at a dealership, so they probably aren't going to know anything...

The front end looks crooked as hell. check the gap between fender/hood in that pic.

 

The article makes the car look like a steal. However, check it out first and that warranty doesn't hurt . Thats actually not too bad of a price, definately ditch the wheels once you buy it (if you buy it).

-compression test, leakdown test, test drive it, have it checked out at a dealership

 

$5 its a salvage title.

 

Looked at the other pics, $15 says its salvage title. Front end fit looks like absolute ****.

Looks like they didnt even paint the radiator support, and the hood looks like it doesnt line up right.

thinking the same thing, front end collision, replaced with jdm front end, however not oem parts, it says fiberglass fenders and hood, which probabaly partially explains the poor fitment.

 

could be a very cheap install or accident...my guess is accident

 

if you in the mode to buy a type r then you might want to get a months worth of carfax's to save you any hidden blemeshes you might not find by the naked eye.

 

Title search shows vehicle was in an accident, 2001.

I'm not going to share the data from CARFAX, they are getting pretty paranoid about folks giving their reports to those who haven't bought the service. I wouldn't put it past them to have people scanning message boards looking for offenders.

 

I live down here in south florida and i heard about this car, not a good deal.

not even going to bother saying what everyone else is saying. but just looking at the picture you attached, the hood/fender/headlight line is the ugliest interesection i've seen in awhile. don't bother looking at it.

 

the car looks like it was botched together with ricer intentions hoping some youngster will come along and snap it up for the R badge, rims and JDM front.

And i reckon he's got a good chance.

The whole front end is a different shade of yellow also.

 

How is that even a good price? It's got 76000 miles on it.

You can buy mine for $17500 with only 40K miles on it with no accidents.

its not oem parts, they are cheap fiberglass fenders

Nice catch! I looked at it pretty carefully, and that's exactly right. Clearly, they could't match the paint.

 

The radiator support should be yellow. There also looks like theres scratches on the valve cover, probably from the hood buckling. I don't think its a TERRIBLE car, but not worth the asking price. I'd prolly pay 10kish for it.

 

yeah, that wire on the right side of the engine bay looks like the latch cable for the front end. guess he was to lazy to make it neat. shows how much he care for for his R.
