My R sucked up a buch of water just before I went on a trip. I got all the water out and changed the oil. The engine makes a tapping sound when I started it and I immediately shut it off. Sounds like its coming from the no. 1 and/or 2 cylinder. Its going to the dealership today, but the dealership doesn't want to give any estimates on labor, I wasn't even wanting a estimate on parts because I know they won't know until they look it over. Any ideas on what a teardown inspection should run. Even an estimate on hours would help because then I can guess from their shop rate. I was looking forward to going to the Expo too. Maybe having all those problems registering on ITRCA was for the best, especially if this ends up being terribly expensive. Thanks in advance guys.

Didn't realize they did repairs. Had thought of doing some mods on the car, but decided I didn't want to do anything right now. As for taking it there though, its already to late, its at the dealer. No word yet on damages.

Thanks for the wishes guys. I'm hoping for Expo! didn't realize there was a chance it might not happen until this morning. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both my car and the Expo. I really want to go.

One doesn't bend valves after sucking up water, one bends connecting rods and breaks pistons.
Good luck with it all.

Just heard from the dealership. They're saying I bent a connecting rod and its damaged the block, so I need to order a short black, which is bascially a totally new bottom end. All tolled they're saying about $4800, $3000+ parts and $1600+ labor. OUCH!!! I'm going to look at some other options. I have to decide if its worth getting my insurance co. involved too.
Which dealership is this at? Since you're that far up North I'm assuming Pauly. Is this correct?
Remember just because they gave you an estimtae doen't exactly mean you have to leave it there for them to fix right?

Give me a call and we can discuss. For $4600 we can do a very nice bottom end with all new internals that will provide a much better end result than a factory short block. We do repairs every day and our shop rate is $60/hour.

Anyone know of someone reputable selling a Type R engine or short block in good condition?

Clayton,
Thanks for the reply. I just got off the phone with Scott. He thought buying a Honda USA block and having you guys do the repairs would be able to save me about half on the labor, but parts would be about the same. I was also discussing selling the car as is, but the more I think about it I'm really not sure I want to get rid of the car. Scott has my phone numbers if you have any ideas or want to discuss it further.

Why not wait and find one on the classifieeds here. I'm sure you can come across one at some point, question is whether or not you have another vehicle to drive in the meantime. And I would definitely say take it to King over the dealer, Clayton is

if your insurance agent has his or her head out of thier ***, hydro locking is covered under full coverage. i got 1400 last yr for a hydrolocked d16z6.
i hope u have allstate or state farm. they pay the best

I would stay away from Golden Eagle as well.
They have a bad reputation for dropped sleeves on their blocks (ask me how I know).

How do you know? Lol, 1 + 1 = 2, I'm not an idiot
Getting the thing from Acura for over 64500 is not something I would even consider...

You might want to edit the price.

Good news. State Farm is going to send me a check for the short block estimate minus my deductable. Now I just need to make sure it will be done in time for the Expo.
