Default bigger brakes, less HP

i just saw a tv show where the guys lost 12hp at the wheels on an rsx by installing a big brake kit. Is this fairly common knowledge and people just get big brake kits anyway? i have some si-r front brakes that came with my swap, im starting to think twice about putting them on now, since i just want to go fast in a straight line.

yeah I just watch it too, some of that **** is so gay. I believe it is true but they had to put on some big *** rotors on that thing to loose that much whp.

yeah, wether it is comon knowledge im not sure. but bigger rotors means more rotating mass, which means the engine has to move more weight causing said loss of power. and yes ^^those would had to have been some big *** brakes. and for your brake problem, just get some performance oem aftermarket rotors and pads and you should be set

And Remember - with those HUGE brakes - you have to install larger wheels and tires...... creates even more rotational mass

even if the big brakes weigh less than the stock brakes just the bigger size and the fact that they probably put on some bigger wheels to adds to the rotating mass that the engine has to turn. 12HP at the wheels may seem like a lot but it all depends on what your doing with your car i guess. if your going to autoX and track race it a lot it is probably worth it but if your just daily driving and running up the 1/4 miles every once in a while its def not needed... just my .02

i understand the whole rotating mass concept, but 12 whp is a lot of power.

if you drag, you should look for a VX brake package... or custom mount some solid rotors from a MkII VW Golf. you can also ditch the drums in the back - you don't need those. though I wouldn't do it.

that was sports car revolution.. they were making a track RSX with all Mugen and toda parts.. they put the mugen brake kit on.. but they made all that power back with an exhaust and intake.. it made something like 290 wheel horsepower at the end of the season.. and it was a badass AutoX car

just get some lighter wheels to offset the brakes.
