Default Recent posts reviving old concerns...

For one I stress and worry way too much for my own good(time for medication?). Well recent posts about tranny problems and warranty denial got me thinking again. Should I be at all concerned about my R if...

1. Downshifted from 5th to 3rd 4 or 5 times without revmatching(no more)
2. Never hit rev limiter
3. Never launched, burnout, chirped
4. Gears never grinded
5. Car runs good now( VTEC once a day)

I know the R is babied too much

If you do this at a road speed where you'll be exceeding redline in 3rd, then yes, you should be VERY concerned.

I believe 3rd goes up to around 80mph.

I regularly shift from 5th to third. And if I am going less than 60mph I sometimes go to second gear !! Second gear is good up to 63mph or so, so if I am cruising at 55mph or so and need to pass very quickly, I go from 5th to second (with rev matching of course !!)

3rd goes a little higher than that, 80 in 3rd is a pretty strong punch.

if you are not in any particular hurry, try to downshift sequentially
not realizing what your speed is and downshifting into the wrong gear is a very expensive proposition.

5. Car runs good now( VTEC once a day)

I know the R is babied too much

You would be better off just shifting to 3rd. By shifting to second, and then immediately shifting to third, you give up any power advantage due to the time it takes to do this. By the time you down shift and up shift, third gear would have already been pulling well into VTEC.

Yeah don't worry about it, it's a fun, high revving car, treat it that way. Beat the crap out of it sometimes, or use the old saying, Drive it like ya stole it. It makes life much more exciting rather than worying/thinking about it too much.

OK. The reason he said this is because downshifting at high speeds + no rev matching + corner = extreme loss of control. Welcome to the world of lift throttle oversteer.

I went from 5t to 3rd around 70mph, I didn't go into redline and the last time I did that was about 5 months ago. If I went past redline I almost certaoinly would be a part of the bent valves club. I think third goes to almost 90. Thanks for all the input, fellas here on HT can always been depended upon for info.
