Default crankpully help asap (long)

I took my car a 91 hatch, to a guy to fix it and get it running

He changed the timingbelt for me but called me and said i had the wrong crankpulley on it so he had to change it out

I have a 96 d16y7 in my hatch and he got a new pully from his friend and installed it so i go to pick up my car after he calls me and i get their and he says its throwing a code 3 map

So im like i will just drive it home slow.Well its sputtering like crazy and as im driving it home at around 40 or so and all of a sudden boom something flies off
and my batterie light comes on so i pull over and look and my crankpully fell off
like the bolt wasent tightened.

So i drive home and look at it in the morning and i had the stock pully in the car
So i put it on tighten it by hand as tight as i can get it
Start the car up after fixing the map and the crank pulley is making this loud noise and I look at it and its shaking like its not tight enough

I dont have a compressor all i have are hand tools
Could i have messed something up driving it about 20 miles with the pully off
please help me
Thanks

I think that guy might have messed it up. You shouldent just need a new crank pulley. Also there are other things that can make it shake like that. I really think he might have messed up you motor, not a crank pulley. Also why dont you have the cover on it that might be part of your problem. Good luck

The one on there is not right. Take it off and put the other one on. That can throw your crank off balance. I have never seen that type of crank pulley. (on a honda at least) I dont know what that guy was thinking.

Also you need the little chuck that goes in that grove in you crank. Its a little piece of metal that slides in there.

the little chuck is calld a woodruff key if its not on there you will have serious problems like the plully flapping around an spinnig on the crank snout

that looks like a b series pully, not for sure if that little peice of metal would make it vibrate or not but it would make it just spin.

I belive you can get those keys at a local hardware store. just make sure you dont get the half round kind. Also that may be the cause for the first one falling off the car. Deffenatly get ahold of the guy who did the job.

The lack of a woodruff key would only allow the pulley to spin freely on the snout of the crankshaft. The crank pulley is kept on by the HUGE shouldered washer on the crank pulley bolt. All he needs is a woodruff key.

Yes but the motor Spins Counter clockwise so it should tighten the bolt. If the Key was never there. the friction from trying to spin the altenator would case the pully to spin slower on the crank. Thus rubbing the bolt causing it to spin off.

if it is running ruff after the pully fell off, then the timing belt might have sliped time. if he could not tighten the pully, then he probley did not tighten the belt tenson correctly.

i know that the pully on a d15 is different than the one on a d16z6, but not sure about the y8. the d15 pullys hole is smaller and will not fit. been there done that!!

O he has the y7 I was thinkin B7 for some reason. More than likly the Alt belt will be bigger and wont fit the Crankshaft pully. But im also sure its a different diameter on the d16's. If nothing more you can atleast get the Woodruff key there. Just put it in youre pocket.

Did you get a new pully. If you used that old torn up one it might not be sitting balanced on the crank. Or agian it could be damage caused by the other guy.
