Default car theft question

not sure if this question has been asked. but I need an opinion from an auto-theft

basically my GSR almost got jacked last night. they jacked it, drove it maybe 100 feet, and left it in the middle of the street. my theory is they saw my gas tank was on E and they didn't think they could drive it to their "chop shop" location.

anyways, my car's ignition is all fucked up. can't start the car. will take pictures later.

so my question now is this: when a car theft attempts to steal a car, and they fail the first time for whatever reason. does this mean they will be less likely to try again because they know I am paranoid now? or will they usually come back twice as hard and plan for it better now they know what they are dealing with?

thanks

you would be surprised at who are thieves and who are not. Remember that racer from New York who drove that 9 sec porsche? (Eddie Bello or something?) Turned out he was running a chop shop and stole all kinds of cars.

Point being is that not all car thieves are stupid, low life, uneducated a$sholes.

But I am pissed right now but I am even more paranoid, hence my concern.

my friend's ITR got jacked once and they made about 50 feet away from his house. the cops got 2 of the 4 people. a few months later they came back and towed his car. so you can only do so much to protect your car. if a car theft really want your car they can get it. you can only do so much. best bet is to garage park it. and lock it up while it's in there as well.

my 2 cent.

if they want it they will get it eventually, they already know where u live and how to get into your car...and if they do come back they prob will bring gas...who knows though...maybe, they will be scared now that you know there has been an attempt...

I would be very worried.

They may come back for it, or others may come for it.

I would beef up security and park in a garage if possible.

get a alarm, make a kill switch cutting off the fuel pump. use autolock (i know theirs a tool that it will bust it), get a hub for your steering wheel that detach, etc.

unplug your ECU, heck, take it with you even, also pull some fuses. If anything, the only way they'll get it is if they towed it, which usually deteres most n00b theives, bottom line, you're pretty much f'd if somebody really wants it.

i go to school at UC Davis and around my apt complex, at least 2 gsr's and/or SI's get jacked every summer. I'm moving out in 2 weeks and summer just started this week here. ******** didn't even wait a day before they started jacking.

truth be told, I am tired of my gsr. this is the 2nd attempt someone tried to jack it. and i left it stock for that reason. I am hoping to sell it after things get fixed due to theft. last night, I took out my stereo and amps and deck, etc and anything else important.

However, my ignition is all torn up now and I can't even tell whats what. I need to get it towed when I have time to get it fixed. is it still possible for thieves to steal it if my ignition is all torn?

Well, if they fucked your ignition up, then they aren't professionals..They're just dumbshits looking for a quick buck...And yes, its possible to stean something with a torn ignition, as long as you can still cross the right wires and start it by hotwiring. IF you really want it to be safe, my suggestion is to pull the fuse that helps start the car..Tried hotwiring a friend's car for him when that fuse was blown..and well..yeah, that didnt even start it, so good luck.

Use multiple kill switches on more than one critical circuit. Don't rely on pulling fuses, because otherwise you'll never do it, because it's a pain in the ***. The one time you decide it'll be fine not to....your car may be gone.

Keep them easily accesible, but well hidden..so that you can engage them every time you leave your car with minimal hassle. Don't hide them in stupid places either where a thief might be looking anyways.

There's a possibility that they will come and get it, like wut the other guy said if they really want it so bad they'll get it no matter what.. But anyways i got 96 teggy ls and i parked my car in front of my house in the driveway all the time and overnight and my car went off like twice in the past months maybe someone tryin to steal it too, After those case i went to get alarm, kill switch, and steering club (lock), and plus i park it right in front of the front door in the grass up the curve now so i think thats safe enuff now.im getting the steering lock that has alarm too when u move it or shake it next time, but i still have worries if thieves want it they want it... but so far the alarm hasnt went off for 3 weeks now.. if they really gonna come and make an attempt again im gonna put my rottweiler & german shepherd inside my car if i have too....

What part of Davis do you live in? Sounds like South Davis.

If I were you, I'd definitley find a new location to store your car. These thieves will probably come back.

They may not be back for a while but they MAY keep you in mind. Don't expect them to come back anytime soon because now they know you're going to a paranoid nut. I would go nuts with security in the meantime: club-autolock-pager alarm-kill switches.

If they want, your car... a good thief will get it. Would a thief be brazen enough to come back soon after his first attempt? yes, many are that bold. And get bolder with the more they get away with. Sorrie to hear about the incident and the damage.
