I am just curious how difficult it would be to do if i bought a standard rebuild kit for my T3/T4..... .50 cold side/.63 hot side/.57 trim.
I see the complete kits for cheap on ebay all the time, and so i was curious how good a rebuild i could do myself without the obvious capability of balancing the wheels. Any info appreciated.

 

the main proble u encounter is the fact the wheels need to be balanced... they spin up to 75k rpms// theres no need for a homemade rebuild, without balancing, and having it vibrate like a ***** and blow on u in a week

i wanted to also do i myself.. but theres no way to do it at home....

 

bad idea to go rebuilding one yourself, get a rebuilt one if i were you

 

most turbo shops can re-balance your turbo for you for $75 after you rebuild it yourself. $90 rebuild kits are all over the internet.

When my shop quoted me $350 for a rebuild but only $75 for a balance job, I did my old T3 myself with an ebay rebuild kit I got for $65 new in the box. Took me a bit of time and patience and an exploded view diagram of the turbo cartridge to work by but I got it done.

Gave the turbo to my brother and he's been running around for the better part of 2 years on it no problems.

 

i would take it to someone to get rebuilt.

 

Where did you get a good exploded view diagram of the cartridge?
