boosted gsr overheating ....
hey all, my gsr is having overheating issues. It doesn't overheat at idle but when I start driving it starts to overheat and the needle goes past the end on the gauge. could it be that im using mostly water instead of coolant?
Why are you using mostly water? When it freezes this winter because you've been slacking and havent changed it and then cracks your radiator and you're out in the cold putting a new one in, you will regret that. Anyway, are the fans hooked up properly and do they kick on like they're suppose to? Did you properly bleed the coolant system? How much boost are you pushing? Does it do it with normal driving or just when you get on it? Do you have a coolant leak(sorta hard to find because it evaporates rather quickly)?
its not water in there thats doing it.... i'd say look at the radiatior cap. bad radiator cap = something called a highway steamer. it'll overheat when running the motor. test the radiator cap at autozone for free... .then pick up the autozone .9bar or 1.1 bar cap for your application. have fun

Why are you letting the gauge go past the red??
Get some coolent in there, it has a slightly higher boiling point than water.. and like everyone else said, check the cap and bleed the system..

Never let the needle go past the end of the gauge. By that time you should really start to think about just pulling over and getting things fixed. Or you can keep driving and destroy it more and have more problems.
