big clunking noise
on my 4th gen it makes this big clunking noise when i am rolling in neutral or just release the gas when im driving it.....when i accelerate or brake it no longer clunks, and it also clunks in between shifts, and the clunks get closer and closer with increased speed. i checked the suspension and its all good...i drove it on the lift and didn't make any noise, bearings aint loose or anything....axels are good (boot isn't ripped) only thing i can think of is the the axel withing inside the boot is ripped....some1 please help me, its driving me crazy....
it went away????? ok lol....
it almost sounds like something is loose and it seems to me like its the lest side mostly.....just picked up the 2 front tires and shifted hard and everything and it didn't make the noise...i had it up to 60 mph.....i hope its the cv axel and nothing with the trans....also when i turn the noise reduces to almost nothing so that would almost lead to me believe its the axle....

It could be a loose set of lugs, a bolt that's loose in the suspension, a worn axle/CV joint, etc.
I've had all kinds of knocks that sounded the same, and it is something different everytime. Just start going through and checking; if you can't find anything loose, try swappin out the axles.

Yeah i agree, it could be a lot of things.
You say you checked the boots and they weren't ripped, but that doesn't mean your CV joints and axles are OK: i went through something similar (weird clunking noises off and on), it turns out it WAS an outer CV joint... for some reason, it had no more grease in it, it was full of water (!?!?!?!!?). the boot wasn't ripped or anything, don't ask me how that happened, but it did. water must have slowly gone in from a loose clamp, washing out the grease...who knows...
