Default Axle not flush with tranny!!... how to fix??

A few months ago when I got married a family friend who owns a shop in Portland said he would replace both of my axles for free as a wedding gift!!

I normally would just change my axles myself but free is a very good price!!

Anyways, I was changing my oil today and noticed that my passenger side axle isn't snugged up with the tranny!!

I also noticed that there was transmission fluid all over the bottom of the tranny. I figured it was leaking from that joint... so I topped off my transmission fluid (it took almost a whole quart! When it's empty it only takes 1.8 quarts mind you...)

Ahhh....so I tried to push my axle into the joint all the way but with no luck...

Here are some pics of what I'm talking about...

Notice the axle about 1/2 inch from the tranny...

You can see that the axle is about 1/2 inch from the tranny...

Oil all over the place!!

Should I worry about this? It has been driving fine...

Will this cause added strain on the CV joint and cause premature wear on the axle?

Has anyone else had this problem? How did you pop the axle into the joint?

If I ever let a shop do another axle of mine I'm going to inspect it right then and there!!

Thanks for your help

unbolt the suspension and hammer it in with a mallet and a block of wood, if it wont budge anymore

Would I have to unbolt the suspension?

Could I just take the wheel off and whack the hub with a mallet and a block of wood?

I thought there might be an easier way than having to unbolt the suspension...

Get a broomstick or pole...put it against the axle (be careful not to rip the boot...put it towards the edge) and pound it in.

No, u dont have to unbolt the suspension.
