I decided to go to the track to see what the Hatch would do. My best ran was 16.7 and that was my first run ever at the track. On the other four runs, third would not go in so the times all sucked. My 60' was 2.1 and R/T was .221


P.S The Hatch is Bone Stock, it doesn't even have a tach! My best R/T was .028

Holy smokes batman. I live in utah and most of the stock gsr's around here run that. to Utah and elavation. Nice for your first time.

 

Good runs. And your low reactions are not actually that great. You want to get a .500 light. That is considered perfect. Anything less (like your runs) is a red light. Just FYI for the next time you go to the track. Launch as the third yellow illuminates and that will give you a starting point. Tune it in from there.

FYI there are some tracks that have different software they are running and instead of .500 being a perfect light some use .000 as a perfect light. I know at our local track they just changed it to .000 this year. Hmmmm 16.7 out of a CX thats either damn good or I dont know and that 60ft seems very low thats a slicks 60ft.

 

That's odd on the timing software. More intuitive, but inaccurate in terms of what actually happens with the car and its position on the track. Then maybe a .026 is good, does that show my age?

 

My CX has a d15b7 in it so it goes a little bit faster than the stock cx engine.

Stock d15b8 = 70 hp / 83 torque.
d15b7 = 102 hp / 98 torque.

And from driving around in my car thats running on a b7 if this guy has a b8 in his CX and he ran a 16.7 then hes doing REALLY well.

 

I thought it was odd as well, but I guess they know what they are doing it is a NHRA drag strip. Thought it was odd going out for the season opener and swearing up and down I didnt red light and looking at a reaction time of less then .500 But then someone informed me of the change.

edit - if its a b7 powered CX then thats a descent time but I dont think a CX powered hatch could turn a time like that with its long *** gears and small motor stock but I could be wrong

On my second run my R/T was .028 plus the .500 for the light; therefore, the total reaction time was .528. That's .028 more than a perfect light. You seriously think that's not good???

It's a CX 1.5 Hatch. The Base model. It is not equipped with a passenger side-mirror (from factory!!!!) so I doubt it has the better motor. I was asked at the track by some guys why it ran so well?? My answer: you gotta know how to drive. There was an infinity g45 running 16.5 all day (old man driving). Like I said, Car is bone stock, the way it rolled out of the factory 10 years ago, and yes it comes without a tach (working on that). My first run was a 16.7 all my others sucked because third would not go in so I had to let off. Hell I even did a 17's after letting off. I raced an Integra type R with bf slicks, I/H/E that ran low 14's and all the way through first I was ahead. Then he ate me alive. LOL
I guess this goes to show that driving does matter. On my second run I went against a 140hp Cavalier (plus i/h/e) and I was ahead of him until I went to switch into third and it would not go in (gears grinded). If third had gone in, he would had been very embarassed. It's "too bad" i am swapping for a k20a; otherwise, I would look into the third gear issue and go kill some slow cars at the track. hehe.

It's just that most people would read that as a .528 light, not as a .028... but then there was the point someone brought up about using other software for the tree and timer... yada yada yada. Doesn't matter. Sorry I brought it up. You da man.

 

Thats pretty good for a stock cx! I got a cx to but mine has i/h/e......so would my car perform that well??

 

Heck! it all depends. If you are pretty good at driving it it should. I think with a short throw, and new polyurethane linkage bushings I could do 16.5-16.3 (with luck).

Are you serious ? You drive until you hit the rev limiter in each gear. And then look at the speed.
Ive done this in every non tached car ive driven. Its fun.

 

I like it...gives me hope for my completely stock '02 VX! And it's very fun flooring 'til the rev limiter kicks you, even if you're trying to shift before you hit it.

2.1 60' is pretty good, especially if you don't even know what RPMs you're launching at. what kind of tires are you running?

 

The CDM civic cx's of that era came with the 16v 102hp 1.5l engines (like the dx's).

16.7 seems really good for even that motor, good launch i guess; did you even trap 80mph?

Before i swapped my 1.5 out, i tested it against my friends '86 8v golf gti (with less milage) and i could pull from him pretty steadily. I believe they were low 17 second cars.
