Well it happened. 8000 RPM in 2nd gear, shifted to 3rd, and that was it. POP, smoke screen from hell, metal clanging and banging all over the place. toast. At first thought, I thought it was the dreaded crower retainers. not the case, they appear fine and so do the valves. Rod is bent to ****, and bluish near the piston end so it appears to have gotten very hot, not sure if thats the cause or not. the piston is either in pieces or stuck in the cylinder. one of the ARP rod bolt is gone on one side, so maybe that was it. oil levels were fine, checked that morning, and car doesnt run lean at all. tough to tell what caused it.

this came to rest poetically ON the header between the block and header

cylinder 3, piston lightly slapped it at 90 degree angle and tweaked the valves

Shouldve gotten ARP rod and rod bolts. Sorry to hear man. If the head is in good shape you can just buy the bottom end and thatll save some cash. My bro just had his motor blow, except it was only a b16. On his motor, the valve broke off the stem and the piston hit it a ton of times, and the cylinder wall cracked all the way down. It was not fixable so now he is going for an EP. Good luck and i hope the head is fine so you save some loot. GL
Damn....I'm so sorry....i can't even imagine how you feel.....i don't know you that well...or at all.....but if you had an itr you were family....and thats real sad to hear....Not trying to be funny at all...but i got 10 or 15 bucks towards the cause....

anyone give me an idea of what the car is worth in its current state?
JUN3 cams/str gears
slightly ported head (not sure if head is damaged yet)
tranny is fine
can still turn the motor over with crank pulley so crank may be fine
AEM EMS ECU
otherwise mainly stock with approx 53K salvaged/rebuilt title.
give me some ballpark numbers with and without the motor.
